I have recently purchased a 1959 Shasta and may have to replace the axle. What is the type of axle that was used in 1959? I am having a hard time finding this information. Also what axle would be an equivalent replacement for the previous part? Thank you for your time.

Axles are sold by width and weight capacity. I believe your Shasta has a 3500 lb axle. Dexter can help you with where/how to measure. It's an important measurement because the tires have to fit the wheel wells. Clearances must be exact.
One good thing: a new axle with brakes will be easily repaired if it's ever needed. Old parts are often no longer available.
