Hello, Im a FNG from VA. Just bought a 68 Shasta 10'. It's in pretty good shape as it's been in a barn for the last 30 years. it has some water damage but should be able to repair it without taking it too far down. I'll be here looking for information and tips on how to appraoch the restoration.

Hello fellow Virginia-ite! I am in western NOVA and currently working on my second camper. If you live in the area I'd be glad to show you what's up with this crazy hobby in person. Having said that, I am no expert but you will find loads of help here. Buy Vik's book, check mobiltec's videos out and ask lots of questions on this site. You will learn a ton and hopefully have fun patching your Shasta back together.

Welcome.
Be sure to lift the skins and assess the framing below floor level. Also, check your metal frame very well.
Waiting for pictures...

Any idea where to get the blonde paneling for these Shasta's?

The blonde paneling will be tough to find and tougher to match. I think I found something close to it but the cost was prohibitive. Sorry I did not keep the name of the company handy either. I want to say Larry aka Mobiltec found some in California but I'd imagine shipping would be crazy. Maybe others here have had better luck. I ended up painting my walls the same color to match the original cabinets. It looked pretty good. My ceiling was in great shape so no worries there. You could always switch everything to plywood like birch, maple, oak, ash or the like. A few coats of amber shellac and it will glow.

The only piece that I need to replace is in the rear and I have all that torn out right now waiting to find something that matches. I think painting might be my only option but Im not giving up yet. Would you be able to post a photo of yours to get an idea? Thanks!!!

This link might help you: 65loliner.shutterfly.com/ Click on Pictures and videos to view the albums. This will show the panel replacement in my Loliner and the backers necessary to support the wall and cabinets. Very similar to your Shasta. Sometimes you can find paneling that is close. Just odd pieces that "might" work. Remember, they won't show that much once the cabinets are in place. The pattern can also be painted on the new pieces.

This looks like the same stuff Larry put in a 66. Maybe he’ll chime in.

I didn't end up getting any because as I stated earlier, I didn't have the money at the time. So I ended up only replacing the rotted parts of the panels that was on the trailer walls with luan and painting everything to match as best I could to the base color of the old paneling, cabinets and ceiling. Turned out ok. If I had to do it over again I would have replaced everything with birch or some other wood panels and shellacked. But the new owner loved the painted walls so no harm, no foul. I bet if you sent photos to the DPI company they could help you with a match.
