After a couple trips in our Shasta the wife and I are finding out that our organization skills pretty much suck. We usually end up with everything sitting on the stove and in the sink. I’m asking for any storage ideas y’all have come up with. I’ve got a few just by a google search but any other ideas would be appropriated. I know it’s a p.i.t.a to post pictures here so links would be helpful too.

Having lived aboard a 32' boat for 14 years until about 25 years ago, I only have this advice to offer. There is an old saying, "A place for everything and everything in its place." It takes some time to figure it all out by trial and error. But once you embrace the concept it becomes second nature to just put things back where you found them. A small space can be kept tidy with some effort. Clutter just makes people feel bad. Small things like making up beds and putting clothing (and other things) away that aren't being used makes it much more pleasant. Wash a dish, dry it and then put it away instead of leaving it on a table or counter. Also, take a hard look at what you are loading inside your trailer. What things do you really need? It is like editing a long e-mail, or a post on a forum. Simplicity is what we strive for when we hit the road, which hopefully will be possible again sometime in the future. Stay safe my friends!

I am an unrepentant neatnik. In Hamlet, a ham style Compact, I keep dry goods in Tupperware to decrease wasted space.from misc boxes.. The side uppers hold four baskets each. The floor of the closet has two plastic shoeboxes for our underthings, clothing gets hung. Dishes are in a drawer under the stove, as are collapsible mixing/serving bowls. The two drawer cabinet we built holds pots and pans in one drawer, odds and ends (my purse) and kitchen linens in the other. Toiletries, except for shampoo (in the bathroom), are in a basket. We have one beautiful wooden box where we keep keys, wallet, phone cords, etc., otherwise surfaces are clear of clutter. So I guess I could have just said, “Be creative. Nobody said dishes have to go above the sink.” At first my hubby thought iI had OCD, but over nearly 11 years with Hamlet, he realized it’s not compulsive at all!

Apparently others are challenged as well. I was a little surprised after typing "RV storage ideas" into Google's image search... I was greeted by hundreds of photos of ingenious DIY solutions to ponder. My favorite were the nice dinette seats that double as dog crates... We do a ton of dry camping in a small canned ham and the upper bunk at the rear is now a storage area. Hooks on the walls and cabinet sides hold dozens of things from towels to multi-tier fruit baskets, etc.

I didn’t put the upper bunk back in our Shasta. We like the head room. I’m getting some ideas. I saw a pic with a rack built behind the stove under the hood that housed spices and coffee supplies. I like that idea because we don’t use the stove. It’s just there for looks.
