Looks like if the correct demographic is avail, Glamping can be a real money maker.
This place in Santa Barbara (locations coming soon to SF, LA, and Ventura Beach as well) charges $200/night w/ a 2-night minimum.
Hmmm, if I could get 2 trailers in my driveway rented out and another in my sideyard, while offering wine tasting tours to Lodi or a daytrip to Yosemite...

Now THIS is more my speed. $90-$150 a night (hey, staying on a yacht in the middle of the AZ desert while watching Castaway and drinking cheap beer would rock!!) www.theshadydell.com/

Larry are you trying to tell us that in the summer it doesn't cost much to keep the sauna warm there.

That's about the price of a nice hotel room in Santa Barbara that close to the beach. But judging from their booking calendar they don't seem to have too many advance bookings and have dropped their 2 night min through January.

Nomad, you could try it on AirBnB and experiment with what kind of pricing gets bookings. I wouldn't think that Manteca (even at 1.5 away from Yosemite) is quite as attractive as a block from the Beach in Santa Barbara.

I wouldn't say it's stranded. I mean there is a Yacht Club and everything... There are people who sail in the desert.

What is the difference, I know people who buy a 100K boat rent a dock at Lake Erie just to go up every weekend and sit on it but never start the engines. Of course Diana and I were figuring up the other day what we spent for fuel 40 years ago every weekend at Lake Erie, it only came a little over a thousand dollars a weekend in todays money. I think the most fuel we ever used in one day was around 300 gal or so. I think I may have figured out why we quit boating.

Oh, I didn't see any sign of water in the pics, I thought it was a fake dock, lol.
