I'd be happy to "dispose of the old tanks" for you.
Any "real" propane station can install new (updated) valves for you.
But sometimes it's just easier to replace them, depends on the certification/manufacture date.

Thanks. We really want to keep everything as original as possible so if we can keep the tanks, that would be ideal. I'll let you know if we end up getting new ones.

Let me be the first to say "wow". That is adorable.
One of the first things you should do with it is to have the propane system professionally checked. It does not take much of a leak to end up being a potentially very dangerous situation, and the life and limb and vintage could all be at potential risk. Vintage and original do not ever never mean as much as safe.

Welcome 1967 Aladdin!
You can trade the tanks in for a full OPD tank at Walmart and other stores cheaper than having the valves changed. Also, if they have propane in them, use it before trading them in. Propane doesn't go bad.
It is illegal to fill any tank with the old style valves.
Most states do require re-certification. In WA, any tank over 12 years old must have a re-cert and that can only be done 3 times. So much easier to just trade the tanks in when the time comes.
Check your state rules and go from there.

The old tanks, if they can be used at all, will probably be required to be hydro-tested before they can be re-certified, IMHO it is just much easier to buy a new tank or tanks, paint them to match your trailer and then you will have one less thing to worry about.

Replace 'em. Nobody is going to come up and say, "Gee, those are the greatest looking vintage propane tanks!"

Very nice! I love the interior I got new tanks just to avoid the hassle. I'm going to paint them anyway, so I don't think anyone will really notice that they're new. Have fun with your "new" trailer!

Thanks, everyone! I appreciate the advice!
Having this trailer is a dream come true for me. I've wanted a 1960's trailer for 20+ years and spent the last two years doing tons of research to find just the right one. I have to hand it to all of you who did all the restoration work from scratch! Kudos! I plan to do all the upkeep and fixes myself along the way but starting from scratch was too overwhelming for me. I'm sure I'll have tons of questions for you all in the near future. Thanks again!

I just went back through the photos again, and can't wait to see more of it. I am not usually in favor of painted interiors. But it is mostly because they are done that way to hide something. In this case, with proof of that not being the case, I really like this. It is bright and airy and cheery, and TURQUOISE! It is really cute. AND, it has Aladdin's lamp in the counter face! Makes me want one...(don't tell my wife....)

Number Ten, your secret is safe with me I went back and forth for a long time about wood vs. painted walls and I couldn't help it - I love the white walls! It makes it seem roomier and brighter. The floor plan is the best part of this trailer - I highly recommend getting one. I'm not sure where you're located but this one is available in Washington. portland.craigslist.org/mlt/rvs/4202205869.html The price is really high and I'm slightly concerned about the lack of interior photos but you never know.

Interesting that he's got it posted in Portland, it's located more than 150 miles north of there. Too bad about the lack of interior pics., especially with that price tag. Neat floor plan, though!

I'm guessing the price tag is slowing people down. It's been for sale for quite some time; several Craigslists. Nice floor plan, do NOT enjoy the exterior paint scheme.
At 2400 pounds, this Aladdin should have working brakes. (pretty sure the brakes are there and electric-no surge system at the coupler) The 4 flat plug doesn't allow for that. An added 7 way plug and cord could charge a battery and operate the brakes.
