Hi and Welcome, if you can post some pictures it will help all of us on here help narrow down a year for you. I was able to pinpoint the year if my Shasta 1500 using the Shasta Vin thread I read through the whole 50+ pages there is lots of info there. Pictures can help the rest of us see what you have and what you need to do to her to get her on the road safely..... again welcome to VTT research and have fun learning..... Debra

Looking for help identifying year of camper. Appears to be 1500 Shasta with vin # S1983. Two places you might find a year. If it has an original mirror in it take the mirror down and look on the back side. Also the bottom of the sink may have a year stamped on it. Might be in the back where it is hard to see.

Hello Everyone,
Just picked up a Shasta 16SC yesterday and am working on its ID. The VIN on the tongue has been located. On the curbside, I found P22219 engraved into the outside of the tongue frame. Also, the stamped plate on the inside of the streetside of the tongue appears to have the same number. Should I be looking for a longer number for the VIN?
The seller thought the "birth" date was 1973. From online photos, I am leaning toward 1968 or 1969. I checked the bottom of the sink only to find nothing. Does anyone have more suggestions on more precisely determining the vintage?
Also, the camper weight would be very helpful in getting a license plate for it.
Your help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks, Dave

Thanks, Dave That seems like the correct length for a Shasta vin. Check this site for the weight. www.myvintagetraveltrailer.com/vintage-shasta-trailers/Sometimes a date Is stamped on the back of the mirror.

Thanks very much for the specifications chart. No date exists behind the mirror. Found a photo with the same red exterior paint scheme from a 1969. So, I will bring this to a dealer to have the VIN Verification Form completed. Then I should be able to register it and have a real plate on it. Appreciate your help!

Like mentioned previously, pictures really help to identify it. During the time frame in question, there were several small, but key features from year to year from '65 - '71. Things like type of siding (appears to vary from one mfr facility to the other even during the same year), windows, side marker lights (or the absence there of), etc. For example, my '67 Compact (mfr in Elkhart, IN) has the 5" brake siding, where one mfr in PA the same year may have had mesa siding.
There used to be an old saying about something that was worth a thousand words,...… hmmm, what was that?....

Thanks, Dave Hi Dave, First, your VIN is complete. I have a 1970 16SC from the same plant (Pennsylvania) and the VIN is P172XX. The VIN numbers ran sequentially, so the P222XX in series would probably date it to 1973 or so, my guess is the '73 model year is correct. In my studies of Shastas, I have found they looked like:
This from about 1968 to '73, and changed the striping and emblem in the '74 model year.
The weight listed on my NY State registration shows it at 2430 pounds. (It may be a little different now following some changes I made to it, but not significant enough to change the reg.) These models (actually all models in the latter 60's) did not have the date stamping on the mirrors, and they also had the stainless steel double sinks, which also excluded date stamping.
Hope this helps any...

Great! Thanks very much for your help! When I get the hang of uploading photos to Flickr, I will post some images and some more questions as I move along with the rehab. Appreciate your thoughts greatly!
