This is a short message for new members lucky enough to find a camper like the one below. The first few weeks we're all hot to get going. No tools, no experience, no space to work, nothing can stop most people. But if you're fortunate enough to find a great restoration candidate, pause and ask questions. We’re here to help but some mistakes can’t easily be undone. A listing on CL I just found:
"...now our interest is gone. We have it gutted..."
Gutted wardrobe and bed
Gutted kitchen, upper cabinets and dinette Notice repair work to the ceiling done from the inside.
Hacked away rear panel. Since it can't be replaced from the inside, it's just another destabilizing issue.
"...ready for some new life!"
It was alive but now it's half dead.
For the sake of being polite, I won't share the listing link. I just thought I'd share my heartbreak. I bet they worked all weekend to ruin this camper. As it sits now I think it's unsafe to tow home.
And they were lucky enough to find it with the original 1958 title. Tragic.

Ya, like danrhodes, what state? We know how to prop em and make em stable enough to drag a few miles. A '58 with title and pretty good looking skin is certainly worth trying to keep alive even after newbie molestation.

Arizona.
$1200 seems like way too much.

Arizona is a long way from a lot of us... Still, pry less rot than some. Such a waste.

The title is what caused me to stop and consider what would be involved in saving it. But $1200 for the camper plus the cost of picking it up is too much. Kirkadie, I did the same google maps search.
I justify buying campers across the country to my wife by combining them with camping trips. I'll overpay for a ham that can be cleaned up enough to use. This Shasta got us a month out West...
If the Arizona 1955 Lakewood (corrected year) was in NC, with a title, I'd offer him half or less and drive it slowly home 5 miles. But it would still be heartbreaking seeing the wardrobe, kitchen, etc in the trash bin.
I was once offered a 1957 Shasta in TX with a title for next to nothing. An extraordinarily generous offer but I had concerns about moving such a very frail (because of extensive rot) yet complete camper 1450 miles so I passed. A different kind of heartbreak...one caused by nature and time not a sledgehammer.

Plus, added to the cost is the season. Probably wouldn't be much fun hauling that poor thing with half it's original weight gone through wind and snow and icy roads.
