Not quite finished as I am waiting for the correct size piano hinge to come in the mail for my rock guard. Yup, I bought one that was too narrow. Ugh. So close! When I get that I will post her in all her finished glory out away from from her carport confines! For now just one pic of her with the j-rail/awning rail, bottom rail, emblems, new AC vent, tank and battery, and door bumper...and her groovy new beehive hubcaps!! The bungee cord is insurance to hold her door closed while we drive just in case. We installed the fantastic fan and screen door too but more pics of everything soon. 20200913_183652 by

Feels great doesn't it? Congrats! I was going to reply...you have no idea, but you are one of the few people that really does know what this feels like! You have been the biggest help! I REALLY could not have done this without you! Thank you Vik from the bottom of my aluminum, natural wood and all things old-addicted heart. My hopes are that we can toast to our trailers in person someday!

Do you have your next camper bought and waiting in the wings?😉 Oh man, have I been tempted about 10 times already! But no, the times being what they are, I and my husband will enjoy this little rattle trap for a while. I have a feeling that my carport will be put to use again soon enough besides just being a roof for this pretty gal. Thanks for your help and advice NC, on the several occasions I asked. You always seem to have a logical, well thought out answer and I really appreciated it!!

The Pony Express rides again and a Bum Shelter no more!! We leave soon on the shake down cruise to conquer all other shake down cruises! May she hold together better than my poor old body did through her renovation process. Thanks to everyone who helped with advice, encouragement, and compliments. They helped a lot! PS. I may post a pic or two from our travels so watch for that thread. Cya! 20200920_120120 by 20200920_120155 by 20200920_120524 by 20200920_120331 by

It's been a while since I posted on VTT because I've been on one heck of a maiden voyage with my Westerner. We finished her on 9/20 and left on a 7 week, 9000 mile trip around the country on the 24th! She did great! A leak developed around the front window but I fixed that pretty easy with some gutter seal. Also lost two hubcaps on washboarded dirt roads and railroad tracks but that's ok, I have two more. Otherwise no problems! We traveled from VA to PA, OH, Mi, IN, IL, IA, NE, CO, WY, MT, ID, WA, OR, CA, NV, AZ, UT, CO, OK, MO, TN, KY, WV, and finally back to VA. It was my husband, myself and my two dogs. The rig was pulled by our 2015 6 cyl. Chevy Silverado 4x4, which did amazing too! We encountered mostly perfect weather, only one mouse and lots of beautiful scenery. We hooked up to electric and water often but also dry camped and used our solar set up many times, which worked great too. We took almost all back roads and stayed at state parks, a few mom and pop rv parks, a couple hotels, family and friends'. Masks and 6 feet distance were maintained as much as possible too! The link is below to some pics of the trailer. I have many more if anyone is interested I can post something more. Thanks for looking! And thanks again for all the help and advice! It obviously paid off! www.flickr.com/photos/185048628@N07/albums/72157716935481872/with/50614838268/20201029_154030 by Kerry Iliff, on Flickr

Merry Christmas to the VTT gang out there where ever you may be! I included a pic that I sent to Larry (Mobiltec) holding my Certificate of Completion that he sends to his class patrons that actually finish their trailers. He really is a walking text book on the subject of vintage trailer restoration. And then there's the Grinch in my front yard stealing my lights...again. He does it every year! Hope everyone stays safe and healthy and has a bit of fun during the coming holidaze!! Camp on! 20201120_172900 by 131893137_10224473565614525_1459171571662677248_o by

Is the intent to use the icebox for storage then? How long can that cooler run off a single deep cycle battery charge. Yes, the icebox will basically be a cupboard for us. Not sure right now about the cooler. I know it draws 5A when in 12v mode. Lots of info in the reviews and questions on Amazon. This is the model I have: ICECO GO20 Dual Zone Portable Refrigerator, Separate Control, 21 Quart/20 Liter, DC & AC, 0℉ to 50℉, with Danfoss Compressor, Mini Fridge Cooler Refrigerator. It's not meant to be used in an RV really but in a car, etc. However the trick is to provide adequate ventilation for the unit which we will do by adding a small vent under the bed nearby. I will update info on the cooler after we have used it. Hi Kerry, I was going back through your restoration thread looking for ideas and reread everything to refresh my memory. Just trying to look ahead. So, where is the update on the Iceco cooler? Did you end up just using the old icebox for storage or something else? So, how did the A/C work out for you the way you had it rigged? I take it the mesh screen in the upper wardrobe was the intake and the outlet was to the side of the trailer? Just curious if it worked out or you had to modify it in someway. Cheers, Rod

It's been used as my husband's office on and off for the last several months. He loves it! But to answer your question about the fridge, it was great on our trip! Did just what we wanted it to do. There is an app for it so you can keep an eye on it from your phone, which is very cool. It did not ever run the battery down but then again we had had solar panels (from Harbor Freight if you're interested) so we were never in any real danger of running low on a charge. It would run over nights no problem tho. It kept everything cold. It was big enuf for what we wanted. We thought we may use it as a freezer but ended up using it for refrigeration the whole time. We kept bulk beverages in our yeti knockoff cooler so the small fridge was fine for condiments, eggs, cream and a few other things. The only problem we had was bumpy roads knocked the plug loose from the receptacle a few times, so we always made sure to check it after conditions warranted. We have not used the AC yet but will soon, so I will update afterward. Getting ready to take the Pony Express out for a spring trip. Can't wait! How's it coming on your trailer? Good luck, Kerry
