Hi All. The interior side of my exterior door is a small diamond pattern aluminum. It had goop on it which wasn't coming off so I used a soft brass brush on a drill to clean it. Worked great but the problem is you can now see which direction I went and each pass. I tried to take a photo of it but it doesn't show up well enough. It sort of looks like the nap on corduroy if you brush it in two different directions. Any ideas on how to make that go away?
Thanks in advance.

Go to a Lowes or Home Depot and buy a polishing bob (wheel) for your electric drill, then use a good metal polish --I recommend Blue Magic--and you can get the quilted aluminum sheet to a mirror finish. It will take some effort but the results are worth it!

You might be able to buff the marks off with rubbing compound like you would buff paint with, or a good alum polish like truckers use on their alum fuel tanks. Available at truck stops and truck dealers or part suppliers. You have created a scratch pattern with the brass brush and the scratches will have to be buffed/polished off.

Totally agree. Go for it Swirlygirls! When you're doing it, check closely to be sure the metal does not have almost invisible pinholes. The tiny quilted pattern tends to be thinner metal.

Thanks for the tips everyone. I have a polishing bob so I'll put aluminum polish on my Santa wish list. I'm more likely to get that than the whitewalls on the list. :-)
