Wow! That's a nightmare! I have DMV coming by Wednesday. They are doing a VIN inspection to see if it was stolen. We haven't spent any money on it unless you call the 400 dollars we spent in a new tire for our truck we used to pull it out of the middle of grease wood. I don't plan to give her up without a fight. I have fallen for the poor sad trailer. link.shutterfly.com/iwh6tHZlV0

In Virginia we have a AFFIDAVIT IN LIEU OF TITLE CERTIFICATE form that a police officer or DMV officer (whatever that is) can fill out and sign. They come inspect that the VIN is legit, sign and boom you're good to go at the DMV. Some DMV offices don't care enough to even need the form and just decide that the trailer is older than the hills and as long as you have the BOS you're good, but you never know so I opted to get this form done and it was a piece of cake.

You know, I’ve never saw a thread in here that started out “ Boy I’m glad I had a title”. I just see no use in having a title other than that’s another way for the system to get your money. The last vehicle I traded in I actually lost the title and the salesman didn’t care. Said it was no big deal.

The last vehicle I traded in I actually lost the title and the salesman didn’t care. Said it was no big deal. If no trailers were ever titled they would be stolen all of the time. They are a VEHICLE and must be registered to be legal on public roads and highways. All trailers no matter what kind are vehicles and MUST have a VIN and MUST be registered... Now I realize that there are some backwards states where no one cares if your old trailer gets stolen or not. I happen to care if my trailer is stolen and without proper paperwork and a properly stamped VIN I can not prove that it is my trailer. Quick Story. My very good friends Bob and Cindy Ross who have been building beautiful trailers even longer than I have bought a trailer with a BOS only in Ca. They put countless hours and about $5000 into it before they took it down to be inspected and registered. Well the DMV ran the VIN and guess what? The trailer was stolen. The DMV had the Highway Patrol impound the "vehicle" pending the search for the rightful owner. He was found and they allowed him to pick up his beautifully restored trailer. Bob and Cindy got nothing but a scolding from the California Highway Patrol. If you want to buy a trailer with only a BOS be my guest. I'm just trying to save you some money and some time. When I buy a trailer with a BOS only, I first go right down to the DMV to make sure i can get it registered and THEN I fork over the money. If they can't wait for me to do that then I don't want to deal with them.

Im lucky to be in one of those “backwards”states where people actually still respect other ones property or the many fire arms that are kept on the property. Fortunately I will never have to worry about anything, much less a scolding from California.

Today I got the paperwork filed to get my Title and registration for our "acquired" trailer. I could easily see the previous owner coming and taking her away from us as soon as we put thousands of dollars into her to make her beautiful. We won't be doing anything to her until we have a title in hand stating that she belongs to me. So excited, we should have it in 30 days.

State of TN does not require a title on any trailer and title is not needed unless you cross the state line into a different state. I have bought many trailers over the past 42 years and sold them all. Easy to sell if you sell them in the state of TN no tags required here either. I just bought another camper trailer 2 weeks ago. Soon as I strip it down to the metal frame then build it back it will be our new camper trailer. The camper I restored 2 years ago will be for sale. Title in TN is very easy to get pay $25 for state inspection then $9 for new title then $14 for tags. You have to be a resident of TN to get a trailer title in TN. If you have a trailer with no title I will buy it.
Bring me your trailer I will get a title for it in about 1 hour. It takes 2 months to get appointment for state inspection.
AZ & NC are both impossible to get a title.

Sounds like a fantastic state to sell stolen trailers in...

Buying a older vehicle or camper without a title isn't a problem here at all.
Maine is supposed to be the easiest state to get a title. Bill of sale needed to get a registration. Maine won't even issue a title.... don't need one, and can't get one.
