Do you know how a metal roof is made? If not I have a video on it. You need to have a seam lock at both ends of the roof to connect with the back panels in a water proof way. A solid piece of aluminum won't have that seam lock at both ends because of the difficulty in making it on a piece that long. Also, the only way you will find a one piece aluminum sheet for the roof is with .040 thick metal which is very hard to fold by hand and also very hard to shoot staples through. But people here have done it. You'll need to find a company that builds trailers for semi trucks. They use such a metal for their roofs. I would say that if it is not leaking now, perhaps you can save up over a year and then replace the roof when you have the money.
Here's the video on the making of a travel trailer roof.

Steve must ship the metal packaged up so that it has a very small chance of being damaged. And then there is the size and weight of the package. These things are just out of our control and it's not like there are big box stores for trailer skin all over the country. When you get a chance you will want to look at my videos on installing a metal roof. They are part of the 57 Westerner project that I did and that series includes how to remove the old roof.

When I ordered my skins from Steve, he didn't even bother to quote me the freight cost when he found out I live in Arizona. Said it would be cheaper to drive over to pick them up. It was a long day, but worth it! I feel for those of you who have to ship the skins.

I pick them up also and I'm in Northern Nevada. Heading down there in a few weeks. The peace of mind of knowing your roof will never leak is worth every bit of money and effort. Now you'll have a roof you can count on. By the way I have some updates for the roof installation videos so make sure to contact me before you begin and ask me about the updates.

However I'm fortunate enough to be only a few hours from Hemet. Thanks

I live 450 miles from Hemet and it's still cheaper for me to pick up my metal than it is to have it shipped. So I just make a vacation out of it and visit old friends while I'm down there.

The main things I have changed about the way I build a roof now have to do with the curbing and the metal install. On curbing, I used to kerf 3/4 inch plywood to make it able to bend around the radius. It's much better to use layered curbing. By that I mean use strips of 1/4 inch thickness, add a 1/8 inch strip if needed. Glue each layer and shoot each layer in with 1/4 inch crown staples 3/4 inch long. No need for kerfing using this method. Cut the plywood width wise of the sheet. That's the 4 foot length. It will bend easier than cutting the strips from the 8 foot side. In the flat and semi flat parts of the roof you can use the 8 foot long strips. Also make sure that you have a crown on top of the vent hole. This will raise the metal slightly so that no puddling happens. I use 3/4 inch plywood for the crown. sits right on top of the hole framing for the vent. For strapping down the metal to the roof, you can use Air Conditioning Vent Strap material from Home Depot. It's 2 inches wide and does not stretch hardly at all so it works much better than 1 inch webbing. This stuff. www.homedepot.com/p/Speedi-Products-1-75-in-x-300-ft-Woven-Polypropylene-Duct-Hanger-Strap-AC-FDS-1-75/202907018 One roll is sufficient. Watch my 57 Westerner Partial Build videos for new metal roof installation. www.cannedhamtrailers.com/57westerner.htmThat should be all you need.

I have 3, vent pipe, shower vent and fan vent....

YES and if any of those vents are within 12 inches of the side, go to half inch crown... Usually crowns for around vent pipes are 4.5 to 5 inches in diameter and round. Made from plywood and you don't need other framing around them. Just make two. One that lays on the ceiling panel, glue it, and then the crown on top of that. You don't need regular framing to be there.
