I have to confess that because I didn't understand all the electrical talk I left it up to my builder to have it done correctly. He had an electrician wire the camper-however, now after going back and reviewing all this information and starting to understand how it comes together more than I did before, I am sorry I left it to them to do it without my input or specifications.
It is a great camper, however at 14 g wire cable with 15 amp plug and 2/15 amp and 1 20 amp circuit breakers, I find that unless I use a 30 amp adapter to plug into the campground post, the cg circuit trips.
Opening up the circuit box in my camper, I found that the neutral and ground wires were on the same ground bar - which I am fixing now.
Also since I opened up the circuit box, that is how I eventually found out that I have a 14 gauge wire with a 15 amp plug hard wired into my junction and into my 15 amp circuit breakers (2- 15AMP & 1- 20 AMP). I think the 20 AMP is put in there in case I use my toaster oven on that circuit, which after a year of having this trailer, I haven't used it inside, only through an extension cord outside on a picnic table. Also, when I have used a heater, I use a cord directly from the CG outlet to the heater, bypassing plugging it into my camper. So I don't think I am using all the Amperage that it is built for. I wish these posts were here before the electric went in. I did find older posts now (ca. 2013 that helped me figure out the ground bar issue!)
I am now fixing the ground bar issue and trying to decide if I want to change out the power cord from 14g w/15amp plug to a 30 amp inlet/10g cord option or 10g cord with 30 amp plug on the end. I just don't know if that affects the wires that are currently wired to the camper components (outlets, lighting, and the electric vent). PS the electric vent is 12v that is wired to an Inverter that is connected to the box - one of the 2 15amp circuits that I have. Do I leave it alone or can I make the switch without rewiring the camper?
What would you do?
