How can I transport a 45' vintage camper to Colorado when I have to drive across states that limit length to less than 45'?

Do your homework... you may be able to purchase a special permit to do it. The State will no doubt insist that your tow vehicle is heavy duty enough to haul the weight and length as well. Good luck and let us know.

Look into "escort" companies who provide 2 vehicle service including flags and oversize banners, they can probably guide you through the process of permits etc, even if you don't need their service.

Hi Friends,
If it's only a foot or two longer, then I would just go for it. I don't think anyone would pull you over and pull out a tape measure. If it's longer, than 45 feet, maybe it's too wide as width might be relative to length and that might be an issue. The escort issue might be an answer, but costly. But as Vikx stated, call the DMV's to find out what your options are.
What about driving around those states? I realize that's a far fetched out of the box option and more costly.
Can you share a picture or the make of the trailer? This all has the makings for an interesting story.
Cheers,
Rod

What make and model are you towing? If you are keeping right and allowing traffic to pass where you can, I seriously doubt anyone is going to bother you.

Make certain about the trailer length you can pull in each state and see if it is different on different types of highways (such as interstates, turnpikes, two lanes) as some states have roads with special rules.

I’d play dumb and just risk it. Lol I agree. They're more lenient on "civilians" than they are commercial drivers. Kind of the "you know better" vs "what do you think you're doing?" Timing is everything. If traffic is slow and not congested..... say Saturday / Sunday afternoon??? JMHO

JMHO If ANYTHING HAPPENS AT ALL during the trip and you are doing ANYTHING illegal, you will be COMPLETELY responsible for all liability. This could include fatalities.... This would NOT be smart. Like Vikx said. Do your homework. You may have to hire it out.
