Ihave found a trailer thats local and was wondering what you pro's think this is worth? I only have the one exterior picture, but I have seen the inside and everything is there (refg, gas lamp, all fixtures, etc.) The camper is clean, clean, clean. I think they are a little high on the price so what do y'all think the price should be? Also it has brand new tire and rims? sorry, it's a 1400

I have a 1400 that looks to be similar in year....I paid 500 for mine before two new tires(...with wingsThe wings on that one don't look like they have been gone long.)....and what appeared to be minor damage... Currently have just repaired the entire back half and I have some repairs lurking up front behind the cabinets.....good luck! Let me know if you or somebody you knows grabs it....we can brainstorm,compare/contrast ideas. P.S, anyone else with a 1400 of similar year, contact me . thanks in advance!

I will also mention that I picked my 1400 off of a farm where it had sat for a while.

Okay, we have been through this before. It is really REALLY difficult to say what one of these is "worth". They are worth what you THINK they are "worth"....and that is where the difficulty lies. Since there isn't a "blue book" that gives a definitive guide to pricing, and we want to live in an "unregulated" society...*ahem*...It can only get one into hot water to comment about worth of these old trailers. (Right, Schweet?) That being said, I am going to risk stepping on toes and tell ya what I think anyway.... I saw a second photo you took of this in your photobucket, it was part hidden behind a tree and I did not think that it looked any worse for that fact. The exterior looks to be pretty clean and straight. That by itself is pretty good indication of a few things. This body style is notorious for three things. One, leaks near the top rear corners, and the vent, which takes out the interior paneling and a lot of the cosmetic integrity above the upper bunk and down the rear wall, and of course, around the vent. Second, is leaking around the rear window which makes the rear wall settle over the bumper frame. I can not tell you about the interior cosmetics but can tell you the rear wall is straight as any I have seen. The wings were definitely robbed from it and sold for the highest bidder to enjoy off ebay, no doubt. We all know that in some cases those are far more valuable to an owner than the camper is. I would not say that in this case. I think it's a shame because the presence of the wings would be a major selling point as to originality of the model...to each their own. The rims and tires must be factored into the equation too. Those wide whitewall tires are to DIE FOR, and though are uncommon on these "toaster" models, look really great. They are also $$$$$$$$$! and are overlooked in most rebuilds..... The 1400 of this era was a great model, much like the Compact, for being relatively lightweight, a great use of space, and slept enough folks to make life interesting... Without knowledge of the interior at all...I would think the straight framing and walls and clean lines and NO PAINT, as in decorated or camouflaged.., about 800...plus maybe 400 allowing for the rims and tires and caps...If the interior is as clean and complete as you say, I would guess $2400 to be low end, and would love to know what they are really asking...and would love to know how much padding they put in their asking price for negotiations. If it were sitting roadside with that "forsale" sign labeled $4000, it probably would not shock me, and if it were under $3K I would stop and take a look. Under $2500 would make me check my bank account, and under $1800 would have me running to the ATM.... There is my "guess"... By the way, for the casual visitor, specs for this model are here: vintagetrailertalk.freeforums.net/thread/39/shasta-1400

Number 10 Thank you for your response. I know that was a loaded question but her asking price is toward the high end to me. She paid a lot for the trailer then says she paid $600 for the wheels, rims, and caps. I couldn't tell but it looked to have a fantastic fan on top but I didn't look that close. I can tell that there is some damage behind the walls that she didn't know to look for and the PO covered it up with paint but overall it has some great bones that could be easily fixed. I'm at a lost since I already have one and was thinking about maybe trying a flip on the trailer and get it into somebody's hand that would love to have it. She was going to turn it into a concession stand but has decided to not carry through. I hate that somebody stool the wings! That's the only thing that's missing. I think I could do a nice restore and paint and then it would be worth close to $5000 I think? Anyway that's where I'm at and now I've got to make a choose to buy or let it go.
Ps I can get it for less than the ATM price.

IMHO...If and only If you can do it without hurting your budget, I would say "GRAB IT!" I haven't seen too many like it in these parts. And, I think it might grow on you to a point that you want it to be your Second Trailer...you know, for those "special occasions" ...

10 That's what I'm really afraid of! I've got to many toys as it is and the wife is pretty good but sometimes; well, you know what I mean. ;-) I want it bad but I would need to turn it and not decide I should keep it.

Then here is the strategy you should use..." this one is so nice and original, Honey, I think we should keep it so you can put your curtains and cushion covers and decorations in it, and you know, it has some paiinted parts already, you should pick out some colors and we'll do some decorating..."
Make it hers...She will love you for the opportunity. You will love her for letting you expand the collection. Everyone wins.
(I am experimenting with this theory now, as we are about to add another one to the stable.)

Yep. When I was married I bought my wife a back hoe and a dump truck one year. The next year I bought her a really nice F250 and the year after that I bought her a really nice fishing boat, complete with rod and reel.
When she left she took it all with her. And more.

I believe the wheels, caps and tires did cost $600-that's what I paid for mine...
That being said, this trailer is a little newer and won't bring high dollars like a canned ham would. With a good build (pictures to prove it) and a lot of upgrades (110 electrical, plumbing, 12 volt and tow wiring)it could bring 5K.
If it needs framing repair, I'm thinking more like $800 if it's nice inside. Lots of work...Missing Wings, bah humbug.

Vikx I think your right on the money. Something in the back of my head keeps telling me, NO? I know she's got a lot into it and she drove clear across the country to pick it up and now she trying to get what she just paid for the trailer only. The problem is she way over paid for the trailer on the front in and now she wants somebody to pay for her mistake since she paid to much. Thanks again for everybody's input on this trailer y'all have been a very big help!! I usually buy high and sell low and I'm trying to avoid that this time but it's tempting.

I agree on the tire/wheel/caps price.. our tires were $500, the rechroming of the baby moons was another 100 and the beauty rings were $40. Bottom line is, what is it worth TO YOU? Are you going to go all in and restore it fully, and keep it? Do a bit of cosmetic work and flip it? I had a business restoring gas pumps and sod amachines and in the end, the price agreed on is one that the buyer and seller both can live with. DO NOT overpay because of an emotional response, and likewise, don't NOT buy it if it fits your needs and is in your range.
