I hate to burst your bubble, Nomad - but, we don't live in the skiing Squaw Valley...we live in the 'original' Squaw Valley, about 55 miles east of Fresno in the foothills! Zip Code 93675. We do have beautiful views of rolling hills, rocks, oak trees and 'pot groves'...lots of pot groves!

I'm not even as technical at home as a lot of you are when camping. I have a dumb phone that cost $30 at walmart 7 years ago and came with 300 minutes of prepaid time. It's still all I use as far as cell is concerned. So I don't text or send naked photos of myself to politicians. I only have a small 12 inch cathode ray tube type television that I use pretty much for emergencies or school shootings coverage and the like. My computer needs to be replaced for sure or I won't be able to do You Tube videos any more when it crashes for the 3rd time. I do have a lap top I take with me camping for an evening movie under the stars at times. I don't have a hot spot. But I do have a solar shower. And I have ham radio everywhere I go. I also have an inverter that provides 110vac so I can run things like my weed eater in case I camp in the outback and want to cut the grass in my camping spot. The inverter is also good for Christmas lights LOL. Just never plug in a bug zapper unless you are ready for a show. I very seldom camp in a real RV park with full hookups. I like to use public lands for camping.
So I guess I don't qualify as a "Geek Camper"....

Larry, if you plug put those Christmas lights on your trailer, you may not be geeky, but you're definitely a "Glamper." Speaking of "hotspots," I do carry a MIFI by Virgin Mobile for internet access. I only pay for it when I need it and I only need it when traveling.

We bought a string of LED lights (Christmas decorations) for Tallulah Belle and if it stops raining I will put them up and post photos.

I will most likely be stuck home for this Christmas but will light up a trailer anyhow. Now I just need to figure out which one to light up.
SuzieQ I do like to glamp it up in my own way at times. Other times I am just there with minimal supplies and needs.

Does this count as geek glamping? Umm. yes. Only one question... Why would you want a replica of the Starship Enterprise on a camping trip?

Thought it was a satellite dish when I first viewed it on my phone! How cool would that be to have a satellite dish that looks like the Enterprise.
And Bill, great comeback!

I think we'll add one when our son and daughter-in-law borrow Hamlet. You'll recognize our son, he'll be the one wearing the t-shirt with a picture of a cop holding his hand out in front of him. It says "Obey gravity. It's the law."

Does this count as geek glamping? Umm. yes. Only one question... Why would you want a replica of the Starship Enterprise on a camping trip? If ya haveta ask you wouldn't understand... Ask your man-person, if he's geeky enough. Hamlet, you mean your people don't make crackly radio noises and NASA beeps and say "thrusters armed, initiating docking maneuver" when they're hooking onto you? Old people. Bah. Get some new, funner people out of the "People for Sale" section. So many possible reasons. 'Cause camping's an away mission in a strange land full of weird lifeforms? 'Cause my camper looks like the Galileo, right down to the rock dents? 'Cause I've been eating fudge and drinking eggnog all week and let myself boldly go? Why do people who don't tow with horses get cowboy curtains? Why do non-Iranians diligently work to obtain Atomic Formica? The world's a funny place, full of weird people. If you have the Big E, you don't need a TV. Could be because of the propane-powered transporter I put where the fridge was, though...

Cowcharge - thanks for the good laughs. We grew up with a dad who was space geek #1. He worked in the space program from its inception until 1980. We have patches from most of the early NASA missions... somewhere. As a kid, I always thought I was going to grow up to be the first female astronaut ... until I realized that 20/1200 vision didn't mesh well with space flight. One of the things that still makes my heart beat fast is to hear a final countdown sequence, especially the final few minutes. Still gives me goosebumps. One of our daughters flew to Florida from California to see the final shuttle launch. My parents had been to the first shuttle landing. My son swung a VIP tour of the space center in Houston last summer. Oh yeah, we understand perfectly!
And only in space can most of see more stars than at a really, really dark campsite on a clear night.
