Hello,
My aunt owns a 1957 Spartan Imperial Mansion that has some soft spots in the floor. I want to replace the entire floor since it's so old. I pulled the belly pan off the bottom of the trailer and saw the insulation. I don't know if its fiberglass, asbestos, or what insulation it has. Does anyone know if these trailers were built using asbestos insulation?

Possibly. Love these trailers - much more headroom than Airstreams, but with the same thick airline aluminum skins! Can you not reinforce the floor from above?

Foster Wayne is restoring a 48. This one is smaller than a Mansion but no matter the shape or the size, they are all built the same. Check his videos out. You replace the floor from the inside I believe. Video number 1 You Tube Link. www.youtube.com/watch?v=_hUK7hmTNZ8&t=7sThis restore is in progress now. He should be coming out with a new one soon. He does beautiful work. Foster Wayne On You Tube: www.youtube.com/channel/UCGY25tO3VJ9I8xpFR6OR3HA

Kimsul insulation is made of wood fibers. It's initially non-toxic and biodegradable. However, with decades of exposure to animal dung, insects, and God knows what else, I would handle it with gloves and a good mask.
There was asbestos in the floor tile and in the glue as well. Be very careful handling both.
I have a '54 Imperial myself. Would love to see pics of your Aunt's. If you decide to remodel the interior, please don't throw any of the components away. You would be surprised how many people need drawers, doors, cabinets, outlet and switch plates, etc, ad nauseum. Original electrical fixtures are particularly prized. Most especially the saucer-shaped ceiling fixtures with the Atomic patterns and the ones with the cone-shaped fibreglas shades (unobtainum, those). If you decide to customize the coach, be aware that doing so will lower the value considerably. The closer you keep the coach to original, the better it protects and enhances the value.

I am trying to replace the floor now. I will post pictures of the trailer soon. The floor has green tiles with green backing that look as if they could be original to the trailer. There is mold along the wall and the floor is crumbling apart in one corner so I have to replace the floor. Any idea if these could be original tiles? They are 9x9 and look like peel and stick.

Don't know if it always rings true but I was told years ago in regard to floor tiles......if they are 12" X 12" they are of a more modern manufacturing date and probably vinyl. If they are 9" X 9" square they are almost always asbestos and considerably older.

Probably an air scrubber as well.
