Hi Friends, This trailer for some reason makes me curious with its strange interior cabinets and "modernized" Windows on one side. A search of 1947 Kit trailers turns up teardrops. A wider search only turns up this trailers size, but a year older with aluminum push out windows. It looks like Scott's is a Kit Companion. Just a guess. I found a larger model called a Chateau. Today, I found this: www.rollinvintage.com/index.php?/category/KitCo-1948It's a 1948 model and this page shows the interior. It has the traditional ice box with sink and stove on end configuration. The ice box cavity has been lost in Scott's 47. I will assume that the '47 originally came configured equal to the 1948 model, though the exterior looks like it got a redesign from '47 to '48. Scott's trailer exterior is more teardroppy which I actually find more attractive. I like the final.bend in the front wall down at the bottom. Cheers, Rod Rod, Thanks for posting that. That's the best interior shot I've seen of what looks to be a pretty original trailer. I believe the Companion might have been a 14-foot trailer and I think the Chateau was closer to 20-foot. Having a hard time finding much information. Interesting point about the cabinets. Maybe they are NOT original. The hardware definitely appears to be the same as another really small Kit I ran across, but the cabinets were different in that one. I wonder if new cabinets were made and the hardware re-used, or maybe there was simply multiple cabinet makers involved? I suppose that could be possible. Seems like most cabinetry from this area had flat-faced cabinets, but I guess I hadn't thought much about it until now. Could these be replacement cabinets? The plot thickens...

Just for kicks, here's the only Kit Companion I have worked on. It's a 53 and I did a fair amount of work to this trailer in order to get it road worthy and sale worthy and flipped it. It was going to the junk yard when I got it and I sold it for $8500... It now lives in a vintage trailer park in northern California. You Tube Link: www.youtube.com/watch?v=NkuLjHCxE-I

Yes it is as close to a barn find as I have ever found. I have seen barn finds that look brand new and never used but they are very few and far between. I like the way Kit built their trailers. Fairly strong framework and great cabinets...

Fairly strong framework and great cabinets... Speaking of Kit cabinets. I'm starting to think the cabinets in mine (or at least the doors) are not original. The hardware looks correct, but my cabinet doors don't seem to resemble any other Kit Mfg I have pictures of. Everything I've seen has flat panel doors, but then I haven't seen that many examples of Kit's from the 40's, yet. The cabinet doors appear to be OLD, but maybe not original. I'm also pretty sure the shower/bathroom was added and that side of the trailer seems to have the most alterations, so maybe they simply aren't original and were built to accommodate the shower/bathroom mods.

There is an assigned size for the video tag on this forum. I always post the You Tube link so people can watch it on You Tube and choose their own size format. Also you can click on the word YOU TUBE at the bottom right hand corner of these videos and it till take you to the You Tube link as well. Don't know what you are doing wrong but you just need to highlight the URL for your You Tube video in the thread and then click on the video icon at the top and it should work. You have 4 empty video links posted at this time.

I'll take a closer look at the links. Or maybe I'm just doing it wrong! HAHA! I don't have a YouTube account. Thanks!

You can see in the ceiling where the wall used to be just to the right of that window.

Now, rather or not it was a bathroom of some sort to begin with, I don't know. I suspect it might have just been a closet. Glad the videos worked, finally!

Hey everyone! Still lurking in the background and soon will be posting more specific questions on the sub-forums related to systems, but I have an interesting question... The guy we bought this Kit from mentioned that it was built on Ford Model T frames spliced together. So far from looking at it, I had sort of dismissed that idea since it really just looks like old formed c-channel material that would have been common during the 40's in trailers, but after looking a little closer at all the random holes in the channel material, maybe it really IS constructed of Model T frames. Has anyone ever heard of this? At the time of this build, the Model T would have stopped production a little more than 20 years earlier, and the cars, by all practical purposes, weren't THAT old, but maybe they would have been gutted to steal the frames. Or... maybe my trailer, in all of its weirdness, is some kind of prototype and they built just this one or a handful of them, on repurposed frames. THOUGHTS???

Been a long time since I've posted, but I keep researching and learning until I'm ready to dive in to the deep end (without a life vest). Learning new things with the help of our fellow members in the background, I think I'm quickly coming to the conclusion that this is in fact NOT a Kit Mfg. camper. I'm actually thinking... I have absolutely no clue what it is! HA! However, I do have a clue to its date. The wheel pattern is a later Ford pattern, starting in 1949. The wheels are 1949 to 1956 Ford passenger car wheels. There is nothing to suggest that the wheels or axle are not original. Lots suggest that it was late 40's. So I'm guessing this trailer was built in 1949 (ish) and was a one-off or small time manufacturer. That being said... should the title of this thread be changed to "New guy with Mystery Trailer"? Also! Are the pictures still visible?
