I thought the floors would need replaced but after removing all the junk and old flooring it seems solid. When the sound deadener was removed from the under side it looks like new. The metal frame looks pretty good, no holes that I can see.

This trailer is a perfect example of the sudden change over from the "Bread Loaf" shape to the "Canned Ham" shape.

Most information on this site can be used on any trailer with alum siding and roof. They are all the same but different.

mobiltec Around what year did this change over take place. It looks like all the help from you guys can be used on the Bread Loafs also. As near as I cant tell from my own experience, it seems that the big change over took place in 1947 to 49. You'll be hard pressed to find a bread loaf newer than 50 and the canned hams just sort of took over in 49. By 1950 I don't think anything but hams and Tear Drops were being made other than a few park models that were hold outs on the bread loaf shape. The Tear Drops were actually the first Canned Hams but the Tear Drops were not "stand ups".
The definition of a Tear Drop is any trailer that you can not stand up in and that has an outside accessed galley. Those are the two qualifications. Size means nothing except for height.
The tear drop shape grew to a stand up and they started calling them Canned Hams at some point much later on. The manufacturers never referred to their trailers as anything other than a travel trailer no matter the shape. Enthusiasts gave them there nicknames according to shape and use.
I can't really prove any of this. It's just stuff I have noticed over the years or stuff that I have been told by people who know more than I do.

Then if you really want to go back we have the 30s Gypsy Wagons... I love those and would really like to get my hands on one.

Larry the Model T Ford Museum in Indiana had a factory built model T motor home built by Ford on display a couple of years ago. I think it was a 1926 but not sure, but it was right hand drive and belonged to a family in Australia. It was really cool sort of looked like an old Hucksters wagon. Henry Ford was an avid camper and was a pioneer in motor home building.

Bill I've seen photos of that one. There is another one that runs the west coast circuit rallies if I remember correctly. I've seen a couple of the Gypsy Wagons like the one in the Laurel and Hardy film. It really is amazing how much of this stuff there is out there. One of these days I need to find a 1952 canned ham of some sort. That's my birth year so it would be cool to have a trailer the same age as I am but in better shape. LOL.

I have a 52 Hanson, but you don't want it... LOL. Larry, build your own Gypsy wagon; that would be a fun build!

Vikx the only trailer I want to build new will be the Off Road Teardrop.... That project is on hold right now while I try to make a little money to pay the bills. I some how have to come up with $1500 for a new computer as this one is just about dead. So if you see me drop off the radar you know what happened.

ARRGH! We need you Larry! Buy something cheap to get by. LOL That's what I just did. I had two computers crash on me since I went to Colorado. My lap top died on the trip, and my desk top died when I got home. I replaced the lap top with a cheap used refurb and then it lost the HD. Luckilly I had a spare out of the old one. But it's not capable of even reading my MP4 videos that my new camera takes. I had the Desk Top repaired but it is doing funny things and acting like it's going to go any time.
Bill turned me on to a place that refurbs and I may try them. But right now is the wrong time for even that small of an investment. Money is tight here and the donations have not been coming in lately, probably for the same reasons.
Now let's not hijack this thread again LOL...
