Yes, I have a 64 myself. It's an SCS; I think that stands for self contained and shower...

Thanks both of you. I saw this at the Hot August Nights show in Reno and was very impressed. You'll be able to see the one I saw when I finish editing the video. I'll be sure to post it here on the board when it's completed. I also got to see the Flyte Camp 61 Holiday House and meet the Scribners. Nice people. They are asking a quarter million for the trailer... Yikes!

Hi Larry,
In case you have not run across the restoration of this particular trailer yet here is the link. I too have a 1964 Shasta SCS which I am almost finished restoring. Body off frame, ground up and thanks to you and your videos I was able to do it without any major catastrophes. Had I not watched your videos beforehand I would have been in deep d"" d""!
This Shasta you ran across is I believe from the Santa Rosa area and they did a fantastic job as you will see. It has inspired me in so many ways.

64shastascs.blogspot.com/2014/03/ Thanks for the link moe.. This is the second time I have seen a trailer restored in this manor where they remove the box intact from the chassis. Not really sure why one would do it this way but to each his own.

I ended up doing a "body off" resto on my Red Dale. I had planned on doing it as the others, but discovered the floor was much worse than thought. I don't do a frame up on every trailer, as some are in better shape than others. Once the Red Dale floor was discovered rotted beyond repair, it became a frame up.
Since I had done framing repairs and most of the interior was intact, it was easier to hang the body and pull the frame out from under. Not the way I would recommend, but where there's a will, there's a way....

I removed the body from the frame/floor as I couldn't see any alternative. The wall framing and paneling at floor level was rotten and completely gone in some places. The flooring (subfloor and the bottom sheathing just above the metal frame was in tatters. The side framing of the floor where the walls attached were rotten as well. In the long run it save me time to do it this way. I will post pictures of my restoration when it is complete.

What we usually tell people to do is remove or lift the lower metal skin and just replace the skirtboards. But you need to remove pretty much everything in order to replace the entire floor so that is what usually becomes a frame off rebuild from the chassis up. Like I said you're not the first person I've seen do it your way and now I find out that Vikx even did one like that. More than one way to skin a cat right?

Cool trailer! Name it? How about “Backwards Barry”?
(I’m feeling very literal tonight.)
