So I am cleaning up my front Hehr window- 4 panels- 2 outer ones are solid glass, 2 inner ones are louvered. I have a few questions: 1) What is this part? It is only on the one side of one of the solid glass pane panels. I am confused ! IMG_4468 by kathy, on Flickr IMG_4467 by kathy, on Flickr IMG_4469 by kathy, on Flickr 2) . In the corners of the window frame (many places) there is this silver hardened sealant- it looks original, but I don't know. Is it perhaps JB Weld? I have removed most as it was coming off in most places- but want to know what to redo it with IMG_4472 by kathy, on Flickr IMG_4465 by kathy, on Flickr IMG_4470 by kathy, on Flickr Thanks all ! Last window- Whoo Hooooo!!

I'm just guessing, but I think the "part" is a spring to absorb the sliding action when closing the solid glass panels. The goopy stuff does look like JB Weld, possibly a misguided attempt at sealing a leak which most likely originated somewhere else?

Gutter seal will replace that goop. Be sure it's dry and use another dab if need be.

That's not JB weld but Alumiweld. If properly done pretty much fuses the two parts together. Search on Web to see how it's done.
