Thank you for the advice vikx I worked on a few things today. I cut the panels for the doors for both the upper and lower cabinets IMG_1060 by debra branch, on Flickr I dry fit both. I still need to sand both sets of doors. I'm going to poly the lower set but first I need to reinforce the edges for added strength. On the uppers i'm going to add a dry erase board for messages / coloring board for the grand kiddos. I want to incorporate stuff to keep the kiddos entertained. IMG_1059 by debra branch, on Flickr I also need to add trim around the opening on both the upper and lower. I also worked some on the door, trying to get it ready for polyurethane. The original door was gone when I got the camper. I was able to get a door off a 1980 model motor home. I needed the hinge, I'm going to try to use the trim that was around the door. I need to cut it down, my door opening is smaller then the donor door. I'm working on what I can before skin installation. Right now I'm waiting to get the counter top back so I can get the door frame complete. Dewey has also been working on the windows. We have to get some glass cut, a few pieces broke as he took them apart. Lucky for me a friend of mine, a retired National Guardsman works for a mirror company and can cut me some to fit. I am so thankful for this site, so many questions are answered by reading old threads. Dewey has been able to do the windows thanks to Larry's YouTube videos. I just sent him the link for the back window today so he can get that one completed. As always thanks for reading, I love feedback..... Debra

Hi Y'all I didn't get a lot done this week. We got to spend time with the Grand Kiddos, after all that's what this project is all about. All of our children are adults now and only one of the three live local. We have been going on family vacations for the last few years, and its nice to have several camp sites. We all get together for meals and activity's but by having our own campers/camp sites we can have our own space. That is our biggest reason for this build. This weeks update... IMG_1067 by debra branch, on Flickr I ended up doing the counter top myself. IMG_1064 by debra branch, on Flickr I cut the trim to length with my dremel. IMG_1065 (1) by debra branch, on Flickr I used the drill press to pre-drill the holes before adding to the edge of the counter. IMG_1170 by debra branch, on Flickr We drilled the holes for the sink and faucet today after we got home from dropping the kiddos off. The sink and faucet is what was in the camper when we got it so we decided to reuse them. I also completed instillation of the inside door trim. Richard can get the water and drain lines run now. There is still a long list of items to be completed before the camper is camp able but we are making progress. The skin should be delivered tomorrow fingers crossed that it is not damaged....... as always thanks for reading and feedback. . . . . Debra

Hi, Folks
We worked on a few things this week. IMG_1172 by debra branch, on Flickr I added trim to the lower cabinet door edges to give it some extra strength. Once I got the edging applied I polyurethane them. I also added the dry erase board to the front of the upper cabinet doors. IMG_1189 by debra branch, on Flickr This is Formica, it has the pattern in it so you can use it like a coloring book page with dry erase markers. It came with a film over the front to protect it from scratched when working with it. After the project was done I removed the film. I cut it a little larger than the size of the doors and used spray on adhesive to bond it to the door face. After it dried I used my dremel tool to trim it to fit and used the orbit sander to smooth the edges. IMG_1187 by debra branch, on Flickr I like the way they turned out. I'm going to add some trim around the outer edge to finish them but I had to order that trim, as well as some small knobs to make the doors easier to open. I completed wrapping the camper so Richard could get the wire for the tail and running lights completed. IMG_1177 by debra branch, on Flickr IMG_1180 by debra branch, on Flickr While Richard was doing the wiring I worked on placing the toilet. IMG_1176 by debra branch, on Flickr I added quarter round edge molding, seam molding, and a shelf behind the toilet to conceal the water line and shut off valve. The shelf is not fixed in place it is just held in place with a cleat on the under side. Richard still needs to complete the water hook up and water drain for both the toilet and sink. I am still working on the entry door but there isn't much more I can do before we install the skin. Installing the skin is the part of the build that has me nerves. There is a lot of money in the skin and not a lot of room for mistakes. It will be a few weeks before I can start on the skin install I have several things keeping me busy for the next few weekends as always thanks for reading, feedback and advice is always Welcome....... Debra

Your trailer is very similar to my 1969 Compact. I am so impressed with the work you are doing! If only I could do as much. Looking forward to bed construction. Patty

Patty Thank You, gypsytinker The bench base's were installed early in the build. They help support the walls in the building process. I took measurements of mine, because my brother is suppose to be making me some legs for my beds. I think my curb side bench was shortened by the PO. I am reusing the cushions from the PO they look good and it will save me some money. IMG_0796 by debra branch, on Flickr I hope these measurements will help. Debra

Hi Y'all We have made progress......
I took a few days off from working on the camper this week, but I worked on some stuff yesterday and today. IMG_1208 by debra branch, on Flickr I worked on the door some more yesterday. I decided to use the inside of the door like a time capsule for the rebuild. I used mod-podge to adhere the pictures to the inside of the door. Than I added foam core board, I still have a little more to do on it before it is complete. We tested the running lights... IMG_1206 by debra branch, on Flickr I thought these looked cool...... I see stars Richard and I worked on skin installation today...... IMG_1211 by debra branch, on Flickr Coleman helped us get each piece of metal in place. There are some jobs that require more then 2 people, They held the metal in place while I used the staple/brad nail gun to staple the edges. We were able to borrow a set of electric metal shears from one of the gentlemen from our church IMG_1212 by debra branch, on Flickr It really made trimming the metal to fit much easier. IMG_1214 by debra branch, on Flickr We marked and drilled the holes for the wires for the Side running lights on both sides. We are trying to work each piece as we go. We don't want to forget anything. We would rather take our time and get it right the first time. We put the roof on top so we could try to match the side seems to the front and back. hopefully we will be close. We are happy with the progress..... There is still plenty to do and of coarse the more you do it seems the more little things get added to the list. As always thanks for reading and feedback...... Debra

Hi Everyone,Richard and I took a few days off work. Lets see what kind of progress we can make. IMG_1225 by debra branch, on Flickr Richard installed the sink drain. We also worked on more skin today. I trimmed the skin to size IMG_1222 by debra branch, on Flickr The electric shears work nicely. IMG_1223 by debra branch, on Flickr With Coleman's help we were able to get the street side lower panel installed, completed the wiring for the AC power and cable hookup. The street side windows have been cut in. Richard also worked on the water lines. We need to check the system tomorrow, we had what we think is condensation around the threads but we want to double check it in daylight to be sure. We are hoping to get the curb side lower skin installed tomorrow morning before Coleman goes to work, fingers crossed.......... List of items to complete on CamperComplete door Install fantastic fan Install windows Finish bunk Install running and tail lights Build screen door Trim windows and hang curtains Install outdoor table bracket Clean and install wings and name plates Install outdoor outlet face plates Recheck water line for leaks Complete trim of seams Add shutters and window box Paint/vinyl striping I am sure that this list is not complete As always thanks for reading, any advice and feed back is Welcome..... Debra

Hello Y'allToday's progress. First thing this morning Richard found the spot in our water system that was leaking. so he went and got a replacement part to repair it this afternoon. IMG_1226 by debra branch, on Flickr lucky for us it was a easy fix. IMG_1230 by debra branch, on Flickr IMG_1229 by debra branch, on Flickr All water and drain lines are complete, and working properly with no leaks....... Coleman helped us get the curb side skin install complete this morning before he went to work also. image3 by debra branch, on Flickr I used jack stands and scraps of wood wedges to create tension for a tight fit at the bottom before stapling it. image4 by debra branch, on Flickr Coleman and I worked well together to get the edges tacked down. 3 people made this task much easier, getting it in the track from the top section took some time. I also trimmed all extra metal off the edges + the door and windows. I still need to cut out the cargo/baggage door opening. Thanks for reading, I'm hoping for a good day again tomorrow. As always advice and feedback is always welcome......Debra

Hi, Y'allWe made a little more progress on the Compact. IMG_1247 by debra branch, on Flickr I got the roof lines up and strapped down. We drilled holes for the front lights and pulled the wires through, tightened the straps, stapled the front at the seam and around the window, as well as cut out the window opening. Than I trimmed the edges to 1/2 inch. I'm hoping to get it stapled down tomorrow. I;m looking forward to getting her water tight....... Lets see what tomorrow will bring..... Debra

Hi, Folks
We have hit a road block.........
We got the roof stapled on Friday so Richard could start installing the running lights, and complete the exterior outlets and light over the door. We thought we were making progress, checking on a regular base to ensure that we had not hit any wires as we progressed over the top and all the way to the back of the trailer. However, we are having an issue. The running lights are not working properly. It looks like we may have to pull the roof back up to check all the connections. Richard linked the running lights and tail lights in a connected circuit just like Christmas lights are wired. If one goes out they all go out. We got them back on, We hope it was a user error. He didn't have the Jeep running, we are hoping that it is a safety measure on the Jeep, the lights turn off after a little time if its not running. He also rechecked the area at the back junction where all the wires split off to there subsequent fixtures. We will check it all again tomorrow. Lets hope He has fixed the problem.........
Any ideas on why we are having this issue?
As always thanks for reading and any and all advice is welcome........ Debra

Hi,
Were the lights on when the jeep’s lights were on? I could see them turning off when the jeep lights went out.

I would check the grounds. Are the lights grounded to the skin, are the skins grounded to the frame, is the frame grounded to the Jeep?

Hi, Were the lights on when the jeep’s lights were on? I could see them turning off when the jeep lights went out. We are hoping this is what happened. Richard redid (clean up, re-soldered and re-butt spliced the connections at the main junction spot at the backend. They see to be working now. Fingers crossed....... Debra
