I have a non working exhaust fan in My camper that needs to be repaired or replaced. Before I start tearing things apart I need to know how this thing is supposed to work. Mine is so corroded I cannot really tell. Should there be an external switch? I thought maybe there would be a normally open button switch that would energize when you open the cover but that is not the case. Anyone? Thanks,

Just my opinion, but your idea for how you think it should work sounds like a great idea! Just find a spring loaded switch of sorts that’s rated to handle the voltage & current and make it happen! Unless the original way had something unique or interesting about it, I wouldn’t be too concerned with whether or not you followed the original design.
And welcome to the forums!

I have used these and while I don't remember where the switch was located, opening the rain cover did turn the fan on.

Thanks. I went ahead and took out the fan. It was a mess. 62 years of build up on all parts. After I removed it I could see that on of the wires had melted to the case and the previous owner just disconnected it. It took it apart and it looked like an easy fix since there was ample wire tied in a knot that I could easily solder an extension to it. Unfortunately one of the wired was barely attached to the windings and did break off. If I can remove the windings from the case I can probably repair it. I'll have t drill out 3 rivets first... Not enough time left in the day to do that.
Anyhow the fan has a McMillan MFG tag riveted to the case. I hope I can make it work again. It's a quality oldie.
