Hey Bryan, Nice to see things coming together. Looking great! How did you join your corners on the door? I noticed the door frame had that piece of aluminum that looks like a kick plate. Since the rot monster found a good home in the original door behind it, did you ever consider cutting the that part of the door frame away to reduce the chances that it happen again? Rod There is nothing you can do to mitigate that problem because of the way these doors are made. Water has a chance to get in everywhere on the door. Best thing to do is to not leave the door open during rain.

Rod, I replicated the door just like original. But, I shellacked the inside wood hoping that would slow the rot monster down by making it a little more water resistant. Shasta left the wood raw.

First time out of the garage since last fall when I began the project. Had to wait until it was outside to put the Hehr roof vent back on. We may take it out for a this weekend for a test run. Still need to polish the original paint, refinish the tongue, rear bumper, propane tank mount, and step. My to-do list is getting short. BA81ADBA-AFF9-4402-B662-6F1BEF3685BB by Bryan Port, on Flickr

I have been working on the machine compounding of the original paint. Here is the curb side after compounding. It shined up well, but the paint is very thin. I am going to enjoy it this way for now. I still need to paint the tongue, step, and rear bumper. I hope to have this done within the next couple of weeks. AB938AEA-A451-4AE3-9766-56482F52E077 by Bryan Port, on Flickr

Or don't paint it at all. The nicer they look, the better the chance of it getting stolen.

You replaced the door hinge with an oak one?

When you polish the windows, what do you use in addition to the wheel degreaser? Magic eraser?

Those frames look beautiful. So how do we know if the frames were originally highly polished or if they were just run of the mill aluminum? And , how often do people have to clean them again to keep them looking nice? thanks What’d you use to scrub it?

You replaced the door hinge with an oak one? Yes, I replaced the door jamb that the hinge screws too with oak, for strength. Polishing the window I used a 4” cotton polishing wheel on an pneumatic air tool, along with aluminum polishing rouge. A lot of work and very messy. On the window frames, I scrubbed them with red 3-M scotchbrite pads in conjunction with the acid based aluminum cleaner from NAPA. The heavy oxidated areas left pits behind, but it looks very acceptable.

Nice job on that J-Rail. Looks like it cleaned up nicely.

Today I got the gas light working properly. At first it was not very bright. The problem was a partially restricted nozzle orifice. I have a spare lamp so I swapped the nozzle, and it made a tremendous difference. I love the glow, and the sound it makes. 5DBF7B89-0DA2-4B5F-A4D7-A5F5D860FDD0 by Bryan Port, on Flickr
