I didn't think this could possibly be right. I'll be taking it in to have it fixed correctly. I placed an order yesterday through vintagetrailershop to replace all the weatherstripping and gaskets and discs on all the windows.

Well that was a lesson in tedium. Disassembled and cleaned all the jalousie windows. Took all day. Does anyone know why the window sticks out of the frame on the front window? And no it isn't just falling out. 20170529_150122 by Tasha Townsend, on Flickr 20170529_150532 by Tasha Townsend, on Flickr

What's the width of the trailer body? Looks like a 7 footer. 81" inside width, 84" outside width.

Congrats, you are off to a good start. I like to see a tidy work space. By the looks of things you'll be replacing the floor thus taking it all the way down to the bare frame. I have been able to free up rusted couplers by soaking them overnight in a penetrating oil and gently tapping on the moving parts. Get that cover secured so the wind doesn't take it away. Unless you are Wonderwoman, this will a lot more than just a summer project for you two. Thanks rintin- I'm under no illusions that I will finish this summer- just get a good start on it. Yes- I have to take it all the way down to the chassis and while I'm there have those components inspected/sandblasted/recoated etc. and have the hitch replaced.

I introduced myself and my trailer a couple weeks ago. Been dying to get started. So yesterday I did the first real work. "Bess" got new tires so she could be moved from where the tow truck dumped her.
Then I moved her, tenuously (because the hitch is frozen), to under a new carport. Time for reno! Removed windows and door. My 13 yr son wants to help with the restoration and I think it will be a great mom and son project this summer.
Took off one side panel that was already half off, then tackled the front end. You can see from the pictures that there is nothing left of the lower framing, it disintegrated. She is in bad shape. The sides are no longer attached to the floor/frame. and all that is holding her up is the skin and the closet
Observations- I'm probably gonna need a tetanus shot before this is over and my forearms are going to look like Popeyes.

A must have is a router and a good set of bits. K- so I forgot to say I have a router- this is the one tool in my shop that I haven't yet learned to use. Best be getting it out.

Welcome! And I hope I get to meet you and your trailer some day. Yours will probably be finished before mine. We will be at the Play the Gap rally next Sunday (5-21-17) in Union Gap WA. Nothing gets you going like going to a rally. It gets you all pumped up about getting home and getting started. I haven't even touched my trailer yet, still researching and learning so no way will I be finished before you.

HI Fortasha, When you say "toolbox" and list table saw I'm thinking you are actually meaning "shop". Anyway, first, like marty says, the multi tool is a must. It may be one of the best elect hand tools ever. Get a good one and don't worry about the cost too much. It's the blades that eat you up on cost on those things. Well I'm an old man, a general contractor and a life long carpenter and woodworker and one is never done getting tools. With hand tools, if you like the feel of nice hand planes, chisels, etc, there can never be enough. But looking at your list two things I think are essential I don't see there is a band saw and clamps. Decent bar clamps from 6" through 24" and some longer bar or pipe clamps help in all kinds of woodwork----including a trailer rebuild. One tool buying rule worth mentioning is, don't buy a tool until you need it, but when you do, get it and don't compromise with the wrong tool. Welcome to the group and happy carpentering. Thanks roadtripper- I have a scroll saw but not a band saw but they are pretty close. And I do have clamps, although one can never have enough. I'm also an amateur woodworker- build/rebuild furniture so I know my way around my tools but I'm self taught (which means I wish I knew what I don't know when it comes to construction).
