I've still got a couple of them out in the yard, I'll have to look but I think they were welded in place. My memory fails me at the moment but I think they were attached between a pair of outriggers in the metal frame underneath.

I'll second the request for photos.
The early 16SC was offered with the option from the dealer of the front gaucho, however they are rather rare. Most were laid out with the dinette in the front, and the gaucho along the curbside wall rearward. I thought there were brochure photos that showed this layout, but I have not found them yet. There was a member here on the board a number of years back who picked one up with this layout and then rebuilt it with the dinette in the front.

That will be it. The "S" denotes that it was built in the South Carolina plant, and there were not lots built there. The other numbers are just sequential build numbers. The year may be pinned down sorta close using the database.

I'm with these guys^^^!!!!
A lot has changed in standards since 1972. There are a couple options, like changing it to a pull-out cord that runs 30 amps in, but that requires having the space for the cord to retract inside and store...but not to convolute the situation, the best and SAFEST bet is changing that inlet.
If you are not comfortable doing it yourself, look up an electrician. It is not a huge job to install this and would not cost very much at all for the peace of knowing it is done right.

Just my opinion for what it's worth... It looks like a really good candidate for a rebuild, and I know I would be kicking myself if I were in the position of having let it go. I am positive that you would find some surprises as you dig into it, and it could become overwhelming if you look at it all at once. If you go into it knowing you won't be camping in it for a couple years, it dulls the surprises a bit... I would suggest looking into having it trailered home, rather than towing it. But that is just an option, I have seen a lot of them towed long distances that didn't seem like they would stand the trip. The tires shouldn't be trusted for the road, but you might be able to slip a pair of spare rims and tires on from another trailer for the trip. That means checking/greasing wheel bearings as well. The closed wheel wells however may indicate that it was fitted with a very narrow tire, so a common trailer tire may not go on at all...contact the seller for the tire sizes and bolt pattern on it before making that plan. Another point is the blue tape. Probably, the corner framing is rotted enough that the screws and staples have nothing left to hold onto, and it is a risk of blowing the skin off in transport, so pack some Gorilla Tape. This doesn't necessarily mean it would collapse however, the shake-test is a better indicator of that. I love the shape and it does remind me of the Holiday House front...I can't for the life of me recall the brand that I have seen like this. I would be really tempted to nickname it the "Holiday Shack" or the "Holiday Hut"....

I have been looking through the brochures I have and cannot find the original equipment size tires that were used for the 1500, but I am making an assumption that the 15 inch should fit on an early-70's model. The 16SC and 1400 from '70 and '71 used 15's.
I have ST205/75R-15 Maxxis 8008 8-plys on mine. They will not go on the trailer under the wheel wells with the trailer jacked up by the axle. I have to jack from the frame behind the axle, and let the axle "hang" from the springs in order to get clearance enough for the wheel to fit up underneath.

All those spots! Isn’t there some kind of a vaccine for that? Nobody has cured any one of us from this "Vintage Fever" yet, I'm not holding my breath...

I had a problem with a fuse in an older (2006) Chevy pickup once. A short took out the fuse in the regular fuse panel for the tails on the truck, but replacing it did not fix the tails on the trailer, although the truck worked fine. I found there was a separate fuse panel that contained fuses specifically for the tow harness, and there was a fuse there which controlled the running lights through the tow rig. Replacing that fixed the tow lighting. Check your vehicle's manual. Replacing fuses didn't fix my wiring problem however, and I blew both fuses again before I realized I had a bare wire against the skin in a marker light that caused the problems.

The lower one may have been a heater vent, and the upper is definitely the stove hood vent.

I just acquired a 1959 Shasta 16 foot trailer. VIN V2734. I know it was built in Indiana, but I don't know when. I also don't know for sure what model it is. Perhaps an Airflight? I have a picture to post, but not sure how to do that. Thank you for any help you can provide. 16-Foot model, no bathroom, definitely Airflyte...maybe. They also had models designated by the lengths, i.e. a 16-foot model "1600", but I have never found enough conclusive information to tell them apart in any significant way. If the 16-footer had the bathroom in the rear streetside corner, it would be a 16SC...but I am not sure they were building those before 1960. That is about the total of my limited knowledge...

I used Mag Wheel and Aluminum Polish, I think was Mothers' also. Polished down with a relatively coarse cloth (terry towel rags are real good). Wiped between a couple sessions with it, then washed down with Windex to remove the black residue.
