I'm excited because I just ordered a portable tankless water heater for my Shasta today! I think it will be so nice to have hot water anytime I want it. Now I'm just trying to plan out where to put it. I like the idea proposed above in txoil's camper. I was just thinking of mounting it on the wall in my closet/bathroom though. I still have some time to think about it, so I'll let you guys know what the end result will be. I ordered this one: www.campingworld.com/shopping/item/eccotemp-portable-tankless-water-heater/37786

Too bad the Compact doesn't have that space. HOWEVER, if you put it on the front wall of the bathroom/closet (you have to do a little reinforcing), the controls are easy to adjust, even when you have the shower running. And the hose is long enough to reach the sink in case you don't want to boil your hot water on the stove.

Do the tankless units need a vertical vent or could one use a side vent like the old rv water heaters? Also, does anyone know if the unit has to be installed vertically? I'm not replacing Scottys in-wall heater which was under the sink and I think I could fit a tankless in that space but no way to vent it through the roof.

If this is the portable tankless, did you install the Marey 5 inside? If so how did you vent it? I've been looking at that option but thought it was a no go based it being intended for outside use only. Our camper came with the water heater enclosed in an aluminum cabinet very similar to a gym locker, with louvered door panel. It is installed behind the cookstove and is self enclosed. The heat generated by the heater dissipates through the door louvers to the outside So far it has worked flawlessly. It requires two D cell batteries inside to ignite the burner, and as long as you carry extra batteries when you travel, you will be fine. I cannot tell you how nice it is to have unlimited hot water available when you want to wash dishes or shower! This is sort of what I am thinking about doing. Do you think if I got one that included a shower head we would be able to use if for both hot water for the sink and outside shower? Also what is the self enclosed box made of? We would have to build one in the kitchenette cabinets.

I've been considering that same eccotemp heater but also not sure where to put it.
