OK I'll go for the dry toilet... I just installed an electric one in the Super Shasta... Same principal except that this thing cost around $800... LOL... But the corn cobs I'm not to interested in. Seems like that would be plenty painful. I'll use good old TP.

Those corncobs reminded me of the movie "Demolition Man"

This is what I am looking at doing, except on a MUCH smaller (and by that I mean skinnier) scale. We have the tiniest "closet" known to trailers and my daughter's only real request (besides her own set of bunk beds/"bedroom" AND an island kitchen and....) is that she wants to be able to potty at night without leaving the trailer. I should say that's the only REALISTIC request. I never should've taken her to RV places to look.
That said, I started looking into composting toilets and found something amazing....separation of the two creates NO sewage (for compost purposes this is rad). Urine can be dumped as-is and poo....with 1/2 cup of bleach added...can also be dumped. My plan is to make a separator (or you can buy one - look online....easy peasy) and never deal with black water. Ev. Er. I love your simple set up. Dunno about the corn cobs but I applaud you on it - if I see some somewhere I'll try 'em just to try 'em. For my kiddo....I'll stick to sawdust and TP.
Thanks for sharing!!

Ooooo. Yuk. Seriously??
Try feline pine cat litter. The 'Flys swear by it. Or: an adult diaper absorbs a tremendous amount of liquid. You know, a bucket with a seat and lid: Luggable Loo.

I have yet to try the bucket in the tiny closet but I have one. I'm in no hurry to outfit it completely with this and I have a luggable loo so we'll take that this weekend on excursion #1.
From what I have read (and used in the past at others' homes (Oregon kid....hippies and hay bail homes and compost toilets before they were a trend) the sawdust keeps it mellow. I'm not scared to try cat litter though. No Johnny Cat, I'd spring for the good stuff....only the best litter for my baby. LOL.

I'll stick to my porta-potty, thank you. There's been a lot of great solutions to the problem of having a sanitary facility in a small camper. When considering it, remember that the inside potty will likely be used only part time. Campground facilities available, lots of bushes, etc. means that the portable facilities are really less chore than they may seem, especially when you are using primarily just for overnight.

I wouldn't want to try that last one if the wind was really blowing...

Jolene not regular cat litter!! Way heavy. Feline Pine is the recommended brand. Let us know if cat litter does work. The clumping kind??

Never thought of that. Regular clay cat litter would be as heavy to carry with your gear as a holding tank. More reason to stick to my porta-potty.
