Cleaning up the j rails and skin of a 1964 Aristocrat Land commander. The original seal material under j rails and windows is a grey pliable sticky stuff, I've peeled most of it off but there's a lot of bits still stuck to the metal. Any advice on a good method of cleaning it off?

I asked the same question here once, paint thinner will do the trick.

Lots of paint thinners out there...try mineral spirits first. If that doesn't cut it try acetone, which works best on latex type products and adhesives, and then finally lacquer thinner worst case scenario.

By the way...most flooring folks use charcoal lighter fluid to remove residue. You might try that if you don't have any other solvents at the ready.

100% mineral spirits works for me. Be careful; they are selling gallons labeled "made with mineral spirits". That doesn't spell 100% to me.

I used paint thinner myself with good results. Take off the largest chunky dried-out parts with a plastic putty knife, then wipe the tougher stuff with paint thinner (or other solvent of course) on a towel or other rag. This should take almost all off without damaging the aluminum. A final wipedown with denatured alcohol will take off any residue left behind and leave a good clean surface for the new putty to adhere to.
