Hi Friends, I had the unique experience recently at a trailer rally of viewing a 1935 Pierce Arrow that was designed as a tow vehicle for a very unique trailer. It is only 1 of 2 left. It literally uses a 5th wheel inside the trunk. Unfortunately, the trailer wasn't there, though see below and you can see some rough pix of it. The car was owned by long time Malibu residents who own the RV park where the trailer rally was held. I was lucky enough to be there when the owner showed up to take the vehicle home on this beautiful Malibu Sunday morning. We got to hear him fire up the purring V12. The Car is not in concourse condition, however, it appears to be largely original in every way and overall in very nice shape. He had to top off the radiator with some antifreeze, but it eventually kicked over and purred like a kitten. I was looking for online pictures to post in this thread of the complete car and tow vehicle and I couldn't find them. However, I think I have seen this car and trailer in a car museum. To enlarge an image you can click on the image and it goes to my album, then click on the image again and it will enlarge. Pretty cool, huh! Cheers, Rod

LOL, mobiltecI remember back in the 70s, seeing cars with a roof top fifth wheel attachment pulling a camper. I personally liked it in a skeptical sort of a way. LOL

Makes even the priciest of current vehicles look like, well....crap. Those old car designs were pieces of art...like sculpture. With a few exceptions, today's are pieces of something else. I've said it before, how cool would it be to have some of those old style bodies built on today's more reliable chassis and powertrains?

And it's amazing what you can do with fiberglass.

I have always wanted to mount an Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser station wagon body onto an 88 to 94 Chevy or GMC four wheel drive frame. Make My own Suburban. Vista cruisers had the bent glass around the roof from the passenger compartment to almost the very back end. Now those were class.

A collector over here has a 36 Cord. Funny little shifter handle, don`t remember if it was on the column or on the dash, anly a couple of inches long and vacuum assisted. Been a long time since I have seen it.

Those are a kick to drive with the pre-shift, and definitely one of my favorite cars. Frankly, there's no need to completely reengineer an old car, replace the drivetrain, etc., for modern duty- just a few minor modifications to the ignition, etc., and you'll do just fine.
My daily driver (and pretty much the only car I drive) is a '65 Mustang convertible, and it looks completely stock, even under the hood (aside from some vintage speed parts). I've put well over 300k miles on it over the years, so it's no garage queen. It's at least as reliable as my wife's minivan, parts are cheap and readily available, and if anything does go wrong there's not much that can't be fixed with a Leatherman and a 9/16" combo wrench. A couple of years ago, while replacing the clutch, I swapped the factory 3-sp for a T5 I had build complete with custom gearing to my specs. The cost of the whole thing, including adapters and the factory-looking shifter, was about the same as the tab for a couple of o2 sensors in the wife's car.
