It was just delivered 2 days ago! I am a bit overwhelmed but so excited...AND!! so glad I found this forum. As a single mom I can't believe I have taken this on, but I can't wait to get the solar/wind up & running so I can start the work (this Spring, once the snow melts)
I had a great experience using U-Ship to find a guy to haul it from Ogden Utah up to my land @ 10,000 ft in Central Colorado. No issues, I am happy to say (especially after reading "Worst Experience Ever" here & seeing what can go wrong!!)
She is going to be the guesthouse/bunkhouse/AirBnB to my 12x24 cabin that has been up there for 17 yrs. My kids have outgrown the tiny loft. The cabin has no elec or plumbing, so the thought of running solar/wind on my new trailer is thrilling!
So, over the winter I will:
- come up with a name!!
- work on the drawers I brought home with me.
- learn lots about solar & wind turbines
- look into expanding my tool collection
- look into fixing/replacing all windows
- find: a new door, door handles, a resource for the interior wood (suggestions??)
- buy: propane heater, solar & wind system
- have fun shopping for: 50's flooring, backsplash, countertops & fabrics
Questions:
- Has anyone out there ever seen this decorative plywood before?
- do you think cabinets across from kitchen sink are original? (i don't--assuming fridge use to go somewhere)
- I think the bathroom is a newer addition as well.yes?
- anyone have opinions about "on-demand" hot-water heaters? (for shower?)
- I don't have a well, currently I haul my water---any storage ideas if I keep the shower?
- Windows: has anyone out there removed louvers & made windows w/ 'awning' openings? I have been told to caulk the outside to stop smaller leaks--will that do it? my back window is so bad, i want to know if I can make it bigger while I am replacing it. has anyone out there cut-into the metal to EXPAND window openings?
any suggestions or advice is welcomed. I am a bit over my head but willing to learn!!
