I need to replace the tongue jack on my camper. I got the 3 screws out no problem but it still won't budge. Is it welded to the plate under the tongue or is mine just badly corroded? It all looks like one piece to me, the tube and the plate that connects to the frame.

Should come right out but might be rusted in place. Take a look for tack welds, a PO may have messed around.

It was rusted in place. It really looked like the tube and bottom plate were one piece. Lots of grinding and I finally removed enough rust to beat it out from the bottom. That was way more work than it ought to be. My new 2000# jack is on its way from VTS.

Sometimes rust will hold better than a lot of welds I have seen. LOLOLOL

That is one strange looking little jack. If there is enough room a hole saw could be used to drill through the top plate then a regular trailer tongue jack can be used. Anoter option would be to get one of the trailer jacks that pivots to horizontal when not in use. those are welded or clamped to the side of the trailers tongue Just need enough room so that they can be released then pivoted.

Gotta ask the obvious- are you using a wheel with that jack? It's not uncommon for older jacks to be a bit short without one. If you'd prefer not to use a wheel, years ago I used to use the base of a cheapie Harbor Freight stamped steel jack stand, inner diameter was a perfect fit for the jack tube and gave nearly a foot of lift.

That's the whole jack and wheel- you may be able to use your existing jack with just a clip-on wheel, like this: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0050NGB6O/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1You'll need to check the tube diameter to make certain you find one that's a good fit. Most older trailer jacks were originally equipped with wheels, long lost. They either get busted off on a bump when folks forget to remove them before towing, or they remove them and lose them. If your jack has a square or rectangular shaft, your snazzy red jack stand may work fine (and finding a wheel to fit will be a problem anyway). If it doesn't fit your jack stand, you might try one like this, remove the center post, and either use the provided lock pin or a bolt through the lock pin hole to support the shaft:

By the way, that's a great looking jack. If it were mine, I'd do everything I could to keep rather than replace it.

Yeah, long as it cranks up and down okay and will support the weight. as suggested, just put on a wheel or an extension.

I've ALMOST got the jack on, but it did NOT help that the instructions had the bolts going backwards of the way they were supposed to!!! Pix of the diagram, jack from above and head on are here: www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10156044884035572&set=pcb.10156044895715572&type=3&theaterpix on FBOK, Of course, anyone with a more spatial/mechanical brain than mine (which is almost the entire universe) would have figured it out without a diagram. I have the top bolts fixed, but Pac NW rain encouraged me to procrastinate finishing until tomorrow. BTW, the remnants of the jack built into my trailer were modified to hold the propane tanks and using other installation methods without welding were not going to work. (My 92 year old Dad helped weld ships at the Kaiser Shipyards during the war, but I don't want him welding with his current eyesight, etc.)
