has anyone ever used a hand pump to put pressure into the water tank to create flow that way? I have an idea to install a hand pump to pressurize my water system to create flow.
I was thinking I could even add an outdoor shower.
I understand I wouldn't get a whole lot of pressure but even a rinse off is nice when dirty.

Why don't you put a simple 12 V pump in line and run it off a 12v battery? I did that to mine and only runs when you turn the water on

I've thought about it (and probably will do that). but I like the idea of total off grid and not having to rely on power.

We used a hand pump back in the dark ages (50 years ago) you will discover that it takes a lot of pumping to pressurize the tank and it doesn't last long for the pressure to drop to unusable, then you get to pump it up again. I can't imagine trying to take a shower with a hand pump supplying the pressure. That is why they came up with the 12 volt on demand pumps, a 12 volt battery will run one for a long time.

maybe I should just take my extra 12v batteries I have and run them in series and make a nice little switch board and do a pump. thanks for the info.

its my goal to be setup with solar, I would like enough to run a small a/c unit as well. I just don't have tons of money to throw at my camper. I'm a man with a million toys and they all cost $$$$. I would also really like to get a hitch for my old 59 AMC American and try to tow my camper with that. it sure would look cool.
So when I think of ideas I try to keep it on the low cost side for the time being since I still have so much to do just to get my camper camp ready.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but I highly doubt you will be able to run AC off your solar panels. Even if you had a big enough bank of batteries to power the AC unit, along with a big enough inverter to run it, you won't be able to carry around enough solar panels to keep up. AC just takes to much power.

But where I live it didn't get over 103 this year and that only happened a couple of times. In So Cal last summer we had lots and lots of weeks and months well over 110. Many times it was 114 to 117 and I just don't do low altitudes in that kind of heat when I camp. The generator is what you will need to power the AC unit. Your solar power should be reserved for pump and lights. Perhaps a little fan. What part of Nevada are you in? I'm in Yerington.

That makes 3 vintage trailer enthusiasts in Reno that I know of now and one here in Yerington. Two of the Reno people I know are students in my weekly live on line class for trailer restoral. So I'm sure we'll be meeting up some time. I went to that vintage trailer rally in San Rafael Regional Park last week. It wasn't really worth the trip. Maybe they'll get it right after a couple more years.

yea I heard a about that rally, my folks took a look at it. they did say there was a lot of nice campers. I was busy working on mine and taking out my 59 AMC/Rambler American for Hot August Nights. I hope they have the camper rally next year mine will be presentable by then. . its cool to know there are other folks in my area restoring these old campers. its been a really fun project for me.
