Hello all- I have a 1968 Midas Frolic. We thought it was going to be some simple repairs but has turned into replacing a whole lot including framework. It is really no longer original and as such I am now not adverse to putting some modern elements in. I have read and read until I have such a headache now, and am somewhat confused what direction to go in! I am looking for some advice - if someone has the knowledge.
I am looking at replacing the heater and the refrigerator. I do not know if either even work. Refrigerator is propane only which is ok but my concern lies in the cabinet it sits in - we will be living in this trailer during the winter- and the cabinet has a huge vent in the back which obviously will be letting lots of cold air in. Also if the fridge does work are they efficient?
As for the heater it is a Peerless and I am unsure of how efficient that is. I was thinking I would replace with a similar sized blueflame unit- but the verbiage indicates they may not work about 4500ft. We plan in staying in places that may be higher in elevation- for instance we currently live in Colorado Springs (in a 1984 Fan) which is over 6000ft. My heating concern is more for our short hair dogs and cat that will be traveling with us.
I looked into getting a good generator to run electric- ie: fridge, additional heater, ac, etc but have decided I would rather spend that money on Solar to run what I can.
Also from reading I believe my electrical is a 15 amp. Anyone know differently?
I really appreciate any feedback. Thank you.

Welcome Cjjester,
The fridge may work or not. Propane units are efficient but the older ones don't last forever. They need the vent for combustion. I'm doubtful on the fridge working. You might consider replacing it with a new RV model, propane/electric. Skip the DC because it isn't regulated with a t'stat, just meant to keep it cool on the road.
The Peerless heater is priceless if it works and is vented. Clean it up and see how it does. Do NOT use a ventless blue flame unit in a trailer! The lack of venting can be very dangerous. Most of us use Wave 3 or 6 heaters. They are also ventless but are very efficient and need only a certain square inches of ventilation. They do, however, cause window sweating, especially if it's cold out. Lots of condensation. The first thing I would do is find out if the Peerless works and go from there. The old passive type vented heaters are not made today, except for boats. (can you spell Big Bucks?)
Let us know what you find out.
