Hi Friends, So, I am going through my old threads to delete ones with the PeBucket images and I come across my first post introducing my Westerner. Surprised, I find my images showing. (scratches head) I right click on one photo and this address comes up lh3.googleusercontent.com/--iObrJEF9vs/VEKgW5bHboI/AAAAAAAAAyI/FVIbTlsaDao/w769-h577-no/P1070135.JPGI don't think I had a google photos account back then, so I am somewhat confused, but glad the images showed in this case. Anyone able to ascertain why these images have a google address, even though these should be from my PeBucket album? later, Rod

It's simply google taking over the earth. They're worse than facebook for gathering information.
I was being slightly sarcastic here, but lately have seen some old episodes of "The Outer Limits" on the tube. All the monsters that they could dream up can't compare to how scary the complete loss of our privacy is.

It turned into Google Photos. productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/picasa/IBZjujZJu8s

Hey Dan,
Actually, I do have a Picassa account from waaaaaaay back. It was used for family album stuff. Gonna have to look and see if I started at Picasa and moved to PeBucket later.
Cheers,
Rod

There are other forums I'm a member of that I can upload pics directly from my computer to the forum web site. Can it be done here also?

There are other forums I'm a member of that I can upload pics directly from my computer to the forum web site. Can it be done here also? Any site with a direct link to the photos can likely be used. If you click on the image on your other site and it takes you to a page that ends with the image file name (name.jpg, name.png, etc) then you can paste that into the image link here and it should display. I host images on my blogger blog and post them here often.

The old "vintage Shasta" forum was set up to directly upload to it. Then one day the edict came down that the forum content was over the allowed storage limit, and a huge annual ransom had to get paid. It was very similar to what we just went through with photorobber recently. The old forum closed. In the early hours of this forum, the decision was made not to allow direct upload, so this did not happen again here. A hosting site has been required since then. It is an extra step, but it has worked.

Crummy deal, many hours wasted and worthless threads now. I might pay a reasonable price, but not $400! Guess I'll have to try to update threads in my free time. Hopefully the other 3rd party hosting companies don't follow suit.

I'd love to ask the CEO of Photobucket how he feels about making twenty years of internet forums utterly useless. I mean what other purpose is there for having an account except for linking to a forum? Makes me glad I never got around to redoing my rebuild thread from the old forum.
So, for those who use picasa or flickr etc., how confident are you that they aren't going to do the same thing, assuming photobucket doesn't go down the tubes from their decision? I'm just not posting anything that requires pics any more, which severely limits the fun and utility of this forum. But I'm tired of having all my work erased with no warning, again. The way this is going, eventually only the well-off will be contributors of any note.

Contrary to popular belief,if you have photos on Photobucket you can still access them, you can not use them for 3 party hosting. I have gone to my old photobucket site and downloaded every single photo,I have started using flickr for this site and upload to post but I still have the photo's on my hard drive. On some of the automotive sites I visit they have storage space for your albums,I have photo's there also but still retain everything in my hard drive. I lost a ton of photo's when Star Boulevard shut down unexpectedly about 10 years ago. Danny

Oh I could still access them, but what for? The only reason I put them there was to post to this forum after the last fiasco. Anyway, since they took away the "download album" function, I just deleted everything and closed my account. It's too bad too, I was gonna post pics of TruckBox 2.0, but after just going through and deleting all my threads with pics in, I'm just not ready to set myself up for another screwing by a photo service.

I just dropped in on an old Toyota forum I used to frequent. Tutorials I posted using PB all totally trashed with no backups of those images. Even many user's avatars are PB placeholders. Really about the worst tech company action I can remember...

WOW.
Hope you don't delete all my how to threads in restorations before I get a chance to work this out. Not much time now to dedicate to replace pics somehow off my hard drive for this site.
I will try to work on this as soon as I can on my threads but with little free time now it should only take me 9 years to finish just in time to retire and start on camper restorations again or finish mine and start camping! "F- PB" Really kicked the crap out of the content here on this site.

Good to see you Soup!
Let me know when you'd like to start editing. Most of our threads are blocked from editing but I'll be glad to open them up for you.
