I am wanting to hold down my single propane tank with a bolt through the holes in the bottom on the tank and the holes on my trailer tongue. But I am having the hardest time finding a bolt the correct size. All the ones that are long enough are too big in diameter. Does anyone have a source for the bolt? Where did you buy yours? what size did you get?

I found the bolts that fit the tank but didn't line up with the hole on the round bracket on the Compact frame.
I basically had to grind out the hole on the frame to meet the tank.

Thanks, I guess if I have to grind the hole bigger then many one of the bolts will fit.

nccamper can you post a photo of the bolts? I made some j-hook, but they are pretty ugly and I'm curious how Shasta did it.

Now that I think of it, it may be the Airflyte with the round base and the Compact had two cross pieces with holes that lined up on one bar and we're off on the other. I found a bolt that fit the tank and had to expand the hole on the bars.

I just went and bought a bolt this morning. I think ill have to expand the holes a little to fit like nccamper said. I will post some photos after I figure it out so you can see danrhodesThe bolt I bought is 3/8x10" from ACE Hardware, and I got a lock nut so it doesnt vibrate off.

I'm a little late, but a Grade 5 or 8 bolt may be best for a propane tank. Naturally, the tank needs to be off during painting. Just getting between the tongue framing is a trick.

Battery hold down bolts comes in various diameters. 5/16ths being the most common. they are available at most parts stores. I just bought a couple of 10" X 5/16ths inch hold down bolts from BarQuest, i mean CarQuest. LOL

I think that they are okay, the plastic battery boxes, I`m going to drill through the bottom of the box and securely screw it to the floor, along with the hold down strap. Also, a couple of smallish areas of the plastic battery box could be cut out, of the bottom of the box, then a couple of pieces of angle steel with mounting holes drilled through to screw it to the floor of tha camper, then another hole in the side of the angle to hook a battery hold down bolt to. That should secure the battery quite wll to the floor of the camper and also have the security of the battery box cover and strap. I was thinking the battery hold down J-bolts to hold down the propane tank. I know that they are made in 5/16ths ten inch lengths. I just bought two to build a manual waste gate controller for My 6.5 diesel pickup. Only needed one for the waste gate controller though. LOL

So I was trying to install my 10" bolt through the holes this morning. But now that the skin is on there is not enough space to slip the bolt in the holes. And I'm sitting there thinking what I am goi g to do. Then it dawns on me why am I trying to use one long bolt to fit through all 4 holes when I can use two really shorts bolts for each side. Lol I just thought it was funny, one of those dumb things you don't know why you didn't think of sooner. It will be so much easier this was. Back to the hardware store I go

Trying to get a 10" through all the holes is really ambitious. I went the two bolt route.
