I'm seeing water damage here and there, especially at the ceiling/wall junction. Possibly more that's hidden? It's definitely a great candidate for rebuilding. It's big, the door is rusted out?? and there's no title. Do some serious research on that. Might be an old Fan?

The no title is a non-issue in Maine; our state doesn't issue titles for any campers nor does it require them. The door is a bit of a concern. But for the year and price, the interior does seem to be in pretty decent condition. Obviously there will be rot somewhere. The previous owner has only owned it for a year and can lend nothing to its actual age, condition, history, etc. Checking it out tomorrow; will update. SaveSave

Although ther is a bit of staining on the paneling, the good thing about this one is that if you pull the skins and do the repairs from the outside, you could get away without doing anything to thempaneling except maybe a good clean and polish. A little staining is just aesthetic unless you don't fix the problem behind it.

A little staining is just aesthetic unless you don't fix the problem behind it. That's my thinking. Fix the issues underneath (tires, wheels, springs, etc.) address any rot, clean the interior, and I'm even OK with the "rustic" exterior. I'd fix the door to prevent it from rusting through. I think the few photos make it look pretty good for a 50s. Time will tell... stay tuned. SaveSave

theresa I thought you already had a trailer. Did you sell it, or am I thinking of someone else?

theresa I thought you already had a trailer. Did you sell it, or am I thinking of someone else? haha, I have three. I have a 1960 Shasta Airlfyte which I'm currently doing a group up restoration on. I have a 1962 Mobile Scout which is next in queue. And tucked into the corner of my property, is a 1972 Dutch Craft which is in horrible shape and hardly worth restoring, but it's in my "maybe someday" list. I love working on these; it's my happy time. And I'm afraid that someday, they'll all be gone. So regardless of if I NEED another one, I feel obliged to collect them, and save them from the field, or the scrap heap, or a flipper, or an imprudent "fix". SaveSave

I think it's well worth $600, Theresa. The interior is beautiful and as long as the panels aren't rippled, can be saved. You could even replace one or two if need be. Can't wait to hear what happens!

So, the verdict is: I passed for now. It was a very neat trailer, a Layton of unknown year, but in a lot worse shape than the few photos indicated.
The Cons: It had lots of water damage to the seams, and the ceiling. There is a back door that's not evident in the photos, street-side between the dinette bench and the front of the gaucho, and that is totally trashed, including a broken L-66 handle. A window is missing. Part of the floor has been patched. The rear gaucho is missing and has been turned into a full-time bed.
The Pros: It has a super-neat layout. The stove/sink is in the very front of the trailer and is all original. There is a potty/shower in the front corner, street side. There is a water heater and water tank to supply the water for that. All dinette and cabinets are in-tact (though will need a bit of work). A few of the panels are salvageable. The underneath appeared solid, though I didn't linger as I'm deathly afraid of snakes, and this looked like prime snake territory.
The owner is going to show it to another interested party tomorrow. I told him if they didn't take it, to let me know and I'd reconsider. He did drop to $500, which I know is a great price.

I think I'm in the wrong part of the Country, as least as far as buying vintage trailers go. I'd have had a hard time passing that up, but it sounds like you already have a few good projects 😊

He hasn't sold it yet, and I still may end up with it SaveSave
