Both are between 200 and 300 miles from me. The one says not road worthy because of wheel bearings. Are the bearings readly available to where I could swap them out at sellers house or is there more to it? I checked UHaul site for a trailer to haul it home on, but it said none available?? The other is road worthy, with new tires, bearings etc, but no title and only a bill of sale. Seller says they cant find a VIN. I'm in PA and in the past titled a car I purchased in VT using only a bill of sale, but not sure how MD titles vehicles. Is it a bad idea buying with only bill of sale?

It depends on the state you live in. Maine does not and will not issue a title for a camper, nor can you request one. It just doesn't exist. A bill of sale is all that's needed. Check with your state's Secretary of State or similar agency regarding their laws before purchasing anything.

Thanks, I'll give AAA a call in the morning and see what they tell me. Seller recommends registering as a home made trailer after restoration. That sounds complicated, especially without a VIN. The other one sounds better (clear title) but having to pay to have it shipped kind of kills the deal. I've changed many wheel bearings in cars and Im sure I could change these (if I could find them) but seller says there is also pitting on the wheel hubs, so it might not be as easy as new bearings

You can most likely just repack the bearings, or take it to a close shop to have them repack them. Its pretty easy. Im sure you could find a you tube video on how to do it.

I've bought bearings for early 1960s campers at Carquest.
I agree with Mel, you should be able to repack them unless they're really messed up.
When I buy a camper from out of state i usually camp at a nearby state park the first night and work on the camper for a day before heading home.
I also agree that each state has different rules about the title. In my state no title is the kiss of death.

Well that was a bust. Both were sold within hours of being posted, so the search continues. This is getting a bit discouraging

That was my plan, to make the 4 hour drive this morning. I was tossing and turning all night in anticipation. This is the 5th time in 2 weeks, so either I have my sights set on the most popular models or the prices they are being sold for are just too good for others to pass up. There are still others I see on Craigslist that have been there for weeks, but others must feel as I do, that they are priced way too high

The trailer that's meant to be yours is waiting for you. Sometimes it takes a while. Not to be discouraging... but I bought both my trailers during the winter here in Canada. No one else is looking then and so I caught them as they came up. But on the other hand there are a lot more trailers listed during the summer. Sometimes just driving around the farm areas and knocking on doors can find you one... just don't go alone

I found a few for sale, but all were newer, like years 2000 and up. Certainly not for me. I've been trying to search the Internet, but it seems like craigslist gives the most results (using searchtempest.com) I see there is a for sale section here, but just for parts?

South Western PA (Pittsburgh) Apparently not a hot spot for vintage trailers, but we do have a lot of vintage cars that seem to come out of the woodwork on nice days

Some campgrounds, especially small family run businesses have a little "storage" area. Sometimes there's an oldiejust sitting there waiting for somebody to take it. it's worth a try to call around to a couple campgrounds the smaller the better. I have come across that here in CT

I have come across that here in CT I will definitely check that out, thanks. In the meantime, I found a 67 Scotty Hilander fairly close. Going to look at it Tuesday, even though I'm a bit sceptical because there is no title, but seller says he has previous owner info and he would probably work with me. Is that a big red flag? He gave me the VIN/serial number, but I'm not sure if there's a way to check if it's legit. It does work out to be a 67, 15' H suffix though

Well, that 67 Hilander is turning out to be a real pain. There is no title but seller says the title holder is willing to work with me. Something is sounding fishy. Meanwhile, I found a clear titled, 68 Shasta Starflight that is promising. I'm just not real sure I like the body style as much as the canned ham style, but I think it may grow on me
