i'm not clear on the difference between the a check valve and a back flow preventer. which brand or type are you guys using in your systems?
it seems as though i need 2 of them: one to protect my fresh water tank and on after the city water connection. how are ya'll using these in your systems?
thanks

A check valve and back flow preventer are the same thing to me. It keeps water flowing thru one way but not the other...
Almost all 12 volt pumps have a built in back flow preventer, so the tank is protected there. At the city water connection, a check valve is needed to prevent the pump from pumping water 'out' the 'in'.
Water comes in the city water inlet and to the sink faucet. The pump line is teed into the city water line so it can also operate the faucet. The pump is off when city is connected and on when you need water out of the tank.
Hopefully, somebody will post a diagram.

Some city water fills come with built-in check valves too.
