20170529_165730 by Dean Morrow, on Flickr This is the back corner of my camper. The frame 2x2's. The curbing is 1" wide and that leaves only 1/2" support for the rafters. That doesnt seem very sturdy to me. Would it be a problem if I replaced the rafters with ones the full width of the trailer and fit the curbing between them? In this particular case that would mean 4-5 inches of end grain to screw the skins into but thats a very small proportion of the entire curb.

That was how My camper was built. With the rafters going out to full width of the camper then shorter pieces of 2X2 fit between them. It is a job though, cutting with a band saw for the curved pieces. I used pieces from a 2X6 or 2X8 to get the full curves. Also, make sure that none of the rafters/trusses sticks out over the walls framing.

Would it be a problem if I replaced the rafters with ones the full width of the trailer and fit the curbing between them? That is what most of us do. The increased strength of well fastened full width rafters more than makes up for what little is lost by piecing in the curbing.

Gotcha, so my aristocrat doesn't necessarily have curbing. I didn't see anything like that when I took the skin off.
