Yep and what I do is 3 coats of amber and then two coats of clear. With sanding between coats, at least I would. You need to have at least two coats on before you begin sanding. And then you use very light weight sand paper. 220 grit tops.

I run carriage bolts through the bottom wall plate, through the floor and through the trailer frames outriggers. Used nylok nuts after I got the bolts heads sunk in and anchored. also plenty of screws between the bolts into the floor framing. I do not think it`ll be going anywhere. LOL

LOL You must be careful though when installing the nylock nuts, that the bolt does not turn. I used a pair of vice grips and gently squeezed the bolt threads above the nylock then after there was enough room, moved the vice grips below the nut.

I use lock washers and regular nuts rather than fight with the nylocks. A person can always add a little thread lock to the regular nuts.

I have one question. Is it a Shasta thing to use 1/4 inch plywood on the curve? I was under the impression that it always 1/8 used on most trailers. Just curious.

My Shastas have 1/8 on the curves and ceilings, but they're older hams, 1957. The newer Shastas had the faux blond paneling, it was thicker if I remember right.

sherrifriend, once you get the panel curved, you might consider filling the kerfs with a wood filler product. Some are epoxy, that should work. Then you can sand smooth and you'll have a very sturdy panel.

I'm very interested in how this kerfing method works for you sherri. Especially if you fill the voids like Vikx is suggesting. This is something I have only done a very long time ago on the edge board pieces for the Deville.

Great work Sherrifriend! You are tenacious in your ability to not let adversity stop you from completing this project. I am in awe, my friend. Can't wait to see and read how you wrap this thing up before the neighbors start twittering again! BTW, didn't see if you found a source for the metal roofing. Did you?

Wow, it looks great! Find out the quality and scratch resistance of the Lexan. I think glass would be better.
