From the first time an old travel trailer went past its prime, an enterprising guy from "up north" put it on the ice.... sometimes they only cut up the floor, and sometimes they go a bit farther....... This has been going on forever, and somehow is still going on! Some can be saved.... I don't think this is one of them. The ad reads (Fish house camper rv 1956 VINTAGE - $1200) Hmm...... looks OK. Door is funky fishhouse3 by dhandkey, on Flickr streetside fishhouse by dhandkey, on Flickr Interior..... ARGH!!!!! fishhouse2 by dhandkey, on Flickr

X~2 ARRGHHHHhhhh I have had so many people tell Me that "YOU SHOULD CUT A HOLE THROUGH THE FLOOR AND JUST FISH OUT OF THE CAMPER." It will not happen on My watch. I live to go ice fishing, well that and Jesus, but, I do not like to drive on the ice and I would especially not drive onto the ice pulling a camper. I have seen it done. I just respect and value what I have worked to hard to ge, and to accomplish. Yes, if funds were available I would grab up that camper and see what could be done to set it all right.

Agree! I take the 4 wheeler or snowmobile out to fish. Saw a few 70's trailers converted drive past me on the ice. For some reason , I don't feel too bad about 70's & 80's campers all chopped up!. I need to sell some finished trailer inventory before I can buy.

I would like to build a drop down shanty. I have been in one that a friend had built. Knowing what he did there would be a few things I would do different so it could accommodate at least four sleeping people, each in a bunk of their own. His was heavy. His 800cc or whatever it was four wheeler had a hard time moving it. A couple of extra feet on the hitch length makes for a lot of leverage and a lot less weight for the wheeler to carry. I built a quick mount hitch extension for my camper, extends the hitch about three foot. My Polaris Sportsman 400 handles the camper with ease with the extension installed.

Funny seeing that, because I believe that is the very trailer I saw listed recently in my local Facebook Buy & Sell page in central Minnesota. I recently came across my first vintage trailer by pure chance - a '48 Spartanette 24 off a country road - and was lucky enough to get it. When I emptied it of filthy mattresses covering every square inch of floor space, I discovered SIX ice fishing holes! They were patched in, and patched pretty well in fact, but it made me laugh. I love ice fishing, but there are better ways to enjoy the sport than inside a vintage trailer. Like... oh I don't know, sitting on top of a 5-gallon pail?

I have a canvas/plywood dark house shanty. it folds up like a brief case. 6` X 4` when folded. 6` X 8` when it is set up. I usually enjoy ice fishing in the heated shanty wearing My T shirt. LOL A 18" X 30" hole with a trap door in one end. I saw the hole to those approximate dimensions slide the shanty over the hole then set in their on a chair, heater going and staring down at the Norwegian TV. LOL

Yep Handkey, Minnesotan. Brainerd area. Since getting my first trailer, and diving into the restoration, I'm rubber-necking like crazy looking for others. There's plenty around, but I don't know enough about all the various makes/models to know if some of them are keepers or not. If you know where the single stoplight is between Clear Lake on highway 10 and Clearwater at interstate 94, there's an aluminum one sitting there that doesn't look bad from the road. Not sure what the manufacturer is.

I call for photos!
If you find a mint condition 1957 Shasta, kept in the barn for 60 years, covers still on the cushions, I'll be in the car driving North 5 minutes after you post the photo.

im between white bear lake and Stillwater but roam north to our cabin Near mcgregor . Yes there are still good trailers in this neck of the woods. There are also a handful of prospectors/ flippers that I'verun into and bought parts and even a trailer from. I have done a limited amount of door knocking and have turned only one visit into a buy . Also, late fall is the best time to hunt on Craigslist local ads , yards fields etc. now till spring is a close second . You will get very motivated sellers right now.
Btw very cool first trailer . Any pics posted?
