Hi Friends, I bought a new break away switch kit. The charger is built in. It's this one www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00R4PUZKO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I bought it thinking I could charge it in my house with a charger, but it charges hooked up to the TV battery when the trailer and TV are connected. Not sure I like this arrangement. Anyone know how long it takes to charge the battery if I just park it? Directions weren't real clear on how to charge it. It can only be charged with up to 1.2 amps. Is there a model that doesn't have to charge off the TV? I might send this one back? Thanks, Rod

From the looks of the reviews you should be able to charge the battery in about the time it takes to install the unit, so probably a couple of hours. You can make a plug that allows you to use a trickle charger at home to make sure it's topped off before trips but I'd probably wire mine up to get power when the tow vehicle is running. Thanks for the link, I had to add it to my list of stuff to get

It looks like it comes with a standard sealed lead acid battery. If you make sure the battery is easily removable, you should be able to charge it in the garage with any old lead acid battery charger and keep it topped off with the battery maintainer you use for your trailer battery?

I have bought and installed a lot of motorcycle batteries, which I am sure this would be about the same class of a battery. the instructions with the MC batteries always said to charge them at no greater than 2 amps for 24 hours. Just hook the charger direcly to the posts.
