mel your Airflyte is nearly identical to mine right down to the formica on the table (albeit a few years newer), so I'll be excited to see your rebuild. And if you're not reusing your gaucho, I'd love to have it! haha Good luck!

Very exciting that I found the keys inside the camper!! They didnt work at first, but I put a little WD40 in the lock and after an hour the keys worked!!!! The only lock that I dont have the key for is the vent behind the fridge. I want to wash all the wood(that will be staying). Any suggestions on what product to use to wash them? I have also heard of people using scotch bright pads to wash? I created a flickr account and I just wanted to let all of you photobucket users know that WOW flickr is SO MUCH easier and faster, no adds popping up. Im really glad I made one because I was getting really fed up with photobucket. Here the tutorial dad rambles made vintagetrailertalk.freeforums.net/thread/7276/add-photos-hosted-flickr-tutorialIMG_0134 by Mel L, on Flickr IMG_0135 by Mel L, on Flickr Pretty clean under there IMG_0136 by Mel L, on Flickr Would it be wrong of me to put this gas lamp in the Compact and keep the Compact's shiny original one for the Airflyte??? IMG_0130 by Mel L, on Flickr It's amazing what a good cleaning will do IMG_0132 by Mel L, on Flickr So excited it has a Shasta step....... its the little things lol IMG_0137 by Mel L, on Flickr IMG_0140 by Mel L, on Flickr Any ideas how to get these sticker off?? there are quite a few in the camper. You cant get the edge with your fingernail, they are more flush then a normal sticker IMG_0141 (1) by Mel L, on Flickr IMG_0129 by Mel L, on Flickr Wonder is this cushion is original? IMG_0142 by Mel L, on Flickr Anyone know what this is?? IMG_0146 by Mel L, on Flickr

So jealous of your Shasta step! I would do a very fine sanding of all the wood you're keeping and brush on a fresh coat of clear shellac, that way you can get rid of the fish decals at the same time?

I would love to see your photos, do you have a photobucket or flickr account I can see? Im not sure if the gaucho cushion is even usable, the back side has some mold on it from where they window leaked and trapped the moisture behind the cushion. But besides that the gaucho cushion really isnt in bad shape, Ill try washing and steaming them. But I dont know if that will work or not.

I had my dirty, mouse-infested dinettes rebuilt by an upholsterer... it was pricey, but worth it, in my opinion. I wish my gaucho was there, because if so, I'd have the same thing done. I know people throw them out and have new ones made, but I'd love to have an original at least for an example. I do have a thread. It's not updated and I'm not making fast progress, but it's called The Reconstruction of Lola, or something like that.

The seller made a real mistake not cleaning it. It looks like a great project.
I'd save the nice lamp for the camper you'll most like keep. Although you can buy the a nice gas lamp minus the globe for a good price on ebay. The globe is sold by VTS.
The couch looks original to me.
Aren't you glad you bought it?

Hey Mel, I did a search for swing-a-way (which is what looks like is written on that metal piece you are asking about) and had a bunch of can and bottle openers come up. I wonder if it held the openers on a wall so the user could find them easily. I'll do some more searching later as I have to go run some errands, but that's a start.
You seem to have gotten a pretty good deal there for a Shasta 😁

Almost forgot (then I really have to go cause Sam is getting frustrated with me) those fish are actually decals like these - www.ebay.com/bhp/vintage-furniture-decals They were very prominent in the 40's, 50's and early 60's, kinda like vinyl wall stickers are today. The only way I've ever gotten them off is with sandpaper. I'm sure there's another way but that was the easiest i could find.

Those look like the type of water application decals we used to have as kids. I wonder if just a little water, dishsoapy water or even wallpaper remover would let you scrub them off with a scotch bright pad.

1. Definitely a mount for wall-hung can opener. 2. I don't think that the cushions are original to the gaucho, should be a tri-fold cushion all connected. I could be wrong about original though. I have seen some others similar to them, tufted like that. 3. Wrong style gas lamp, as you know. If it were me I would switch it out for a Humphrey lamp to get the original fit back.
