So since I'm losing 15psi/day out of my tires, I pulled the wheels off the camper this morning. I broke them down at work. They had been installed with a lot of sealer trying to make up for the rust. On the inside I saw the OEM label I ran them through the shot blast at work to knock off the old paint (little) and rust (lots) and picked out some rust-o-leum Navajo white and got them painted. I have some old ford bottle cap style hub caps I'm going to try and fit on them.

Yeah. The 10 year old tires had some extra glue trying to combat the rusty bead area, and the tire beads shredded when I dismounted them. I have some 185/80r13 8pr load range D tires on the way. Today while cleaning the garage I found a random stereo harness, so I put it to work with a random CD player I had laying around. The camper now has tunes It replaces the AM/FM-8trac I also got to working on an escape hatch cover. The only leak I have is around the cracked corners of the vent/hatch above the bunk. I cleaned the old caulk off the cracks and tried some new but still had water come in when it rained. So I went to work Saturday morning and knocked out a vent cover cover And then figured out the cover cover wouldn't work. So I took the old cover off and robbed the metal parts out of it. And went back to work with the pop rivets. The gasket is 25.5 on the outside, so that's where I put the inner frame. I got it installed and even had the vent lift wheel track on the correct side. Tomorrow I will get some weather strip to make up the gap between the inner cover frame and the vent frame. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Thanks! As it is a 26" escape hatch/vent trying to find one is difficult. I called a couple of RV places and their parts departments were stumped. I checked eBay and found a complete one, but it was $150. I have about $25 in weather stripping and rivets in this one. Got my last roll of weather strip this morning, and my tires should be at work today sometime so I'll be able to get the wheels back on. I've got 3 weeks till a 900 mile one way to Georgia for a week of inlaws at thanksgiving.

Found some MD expandable foam weatherseal at the local Ace. On the roll it's 1/4" but will slowly swell to 1" tall. There was no bar code, and it was the only one on the weatherstripping shelf and there was no tag for it there. The girl working the counter said "I got this", and I walked out with a receipt for $2.70 worth of hand sanitizer.
The product itself is amazing. A real gummy foam and a very strong adhesive. I'm sure that's what the 45 year old black crusty stuff around the original vent was like new.
Somewhere in the multiverse there is another guy looking at some gray closed cell foam strip and wondering where it came from.
The steel cap is now sealed though.

Thanks vintagebruce I saw it on Craig's list in north St. Louis and thought it was cool. Went and looked at it on a Sunday. Hit the bank Tuesday, bought it Wednesday, sold my old pop up in bed camper Thursday to offset the cost. This morning I knocked out a shelf where the stove used to be. Then today at work I got cranking on the truck to camper hitch/bumper The subframe on the camper has two points/pins that center in the rectangular holes The subframe is 10" back from where the camper widens to 62 inches. Because my liftgate is only 57.5 inches wide I have to extend where the frame hits the truck. There is a bar with a cam lever lock that secures the camper to the Hitch/bumper Trimmed and contact papered the microwave shelf and brought out my period correct percolator. Also got the hitch finished up today. Got the liftgate tail gate off Got the camper axle adjusted And got the truck under the camper Intervehicular cable should be in today or tomorrow. Then I can test all the lights etc. And this is where it sits currently. The truck cable came in today so I will splice it to the camper cable and test lights in the morning. Even better. I have an original born free truck bumper. I will get pics and measurements for you. I'm jealous of your tow rig. I love the mid 70's fords. And the long wheelbase on the CS would make towing this a breeze.

Bumper pics and drawings I can get more pictures if you need. The chassis plates have a few extra holes and some torch cuts I haven't included in the drawing Hope these help.

Getting ready for a weekend run to the inlaws. Starting some interior touches. Dad's wife used the leftovers from curtain making and whipped up a couple of throw pillows to match the curtains Also dug out a lava lamp I made a hanging bracket for when bought in high school, and a fan I rescued from the scrap yard and cleaned up

I wish I could find one of those fans that looks that good. I really want one for my trailer. The lava lamp brought back memories of staying with my grandma overnight. She had a red one she bought a red one after she and my grandfather divorced and used it as a nightlight for us girls. It was an improvement from the old nightlight I guess................ s-l500

Things learned so far this trip:
I should get a spare for the camper.
I barely had enough tools with me to take the wheel off the camper.
Since the truck is connected to the camper, I have to use the truck jack to raise its rear axle while using both camper jacks to raise the camper enough to pull the flat off.
I also learned that even though the tire and jack tools are under the hood, the jack is under the passenger side of the back seat.
Also the wife will sleep through the camper being tilted 6 inches. And banging tire changing noise.
And that the original wheels are tube style and don't have a retaining lip for the inner bead which is why the tubeless tire bead slipped
And that rolling over the flat tire broke belts in the sidewall and airing it up revealed a big blister on the shoulder/side.
But TSC had a 13" 175-80-D13 on a wheel for $100.

It was an improvement from the old nightlight I guess................ s-l500The fan was a dirty tannish gray and didn't spin. I popped the case apart and oiled everything up. Once I got it spinning I took off the blade and grill and ran them through the dishwasher. I masked off the switch and oscillating control knob and cord and hit it with rustoleum hammered light blue. The grill got a shot of ghetto chrome. I kinda liked the cabin scene on that lamp. Although the red looks more like a forest fire than a sunset.
