We finally found a decent cover for Hamlet, our ham style Shasta Compact. It's made by Classic Accessories and is called a PolyPro 3 Rpod travel trailer cover. The smallest one, meant for a RPod with a 13 inch box, fits Hamlet with his wings on! It's not a super tight fit, but it stood up nicely to the wind/rain storms that have come through the Pacific NW the past. Outlets days. The best part is that it only cost a bit more than $100. We figure that if it only lasts two years, it'll be worth it. For an Airflyte, the next larger size (with a 16 foot box) should work, even with wings on.

Wow Hamlet thats great. Good value too, I saw ome at Cabelas for $119 online for the 13 ft. I think the wife and I should go for it. Think it will suffice even for the last gen Compact?

I think it might. The rounded back on the ham is sort of made immaterial with the wings on, which squares it off quite a bit, and it still fits. there might be another brand out there that would fit the toaster better, but we never looks for one of those. If someone here has found a good fit, I bet we'll hear about it!

Thanks so much, yeah I don't doubt there are others that my fit mine, but its great the makers of this one recognize the issue of moisture trapped under the tarp. Which has always been one of my worries. I really think we will invest in one of these. Great price too.

Does the door part line up correctly?

Does the door part line up correctly? No, not exactly, since the Rpod door is more centered on the side, but the huge zipper does make it accessible. And it held up to some fairly strong winds over the weekend. My biggest concern about leaving Hamlet without a proper cover for another NW winter is the wind driven rain that we get. We have already noticed a leak that we will have to deal with next spring. The time I spent living in him Monday through Friday exposed him to a lot of weather that he hadn't been exposed to before, and now, without a garage, it seemed particularly important not to let the damage get worse. Sigh.

Aww that stinks. Wind driven water is terrible and insidious. Even good construction can come to have issues from it.

I bought one of these covers also and it fits my trailer perfectly! I think I got the 16' version?

Sam and I have been talking about covers for our trailer when she's done so I was happy to see this thread. Just shows my ignorance though that it took me half an hour and looking at the same one multiple times before I realized I'd been right the first time. I kept looking for one that would fit a 13 to 15' trailer, not even remembering to deduct the tongue length cause that isn't covered, duh.
Hamlet I'm sorry to hear about the leak starting, it's a bummer to have trouble after all the work we put in, but I guess that's part of the trailer world, especially with vintages and horrible wet weather. Hope it's not too bad.

Hope it's not too bad. The bummer is that the ONE thing we didn't do was put on the skin. The original was so torn and hole-y that we had to replace it all,so we had it done at the RV place where we bought the skin. I'm sure it would still have leaked at some point, but at least now we will be able to get a good idea of just how water travels along the frame. In the long run, we still have Hamlet, we'll get some good practice, and Hamlet will be ready for. Ore years of fun. It's all good.

And it may have been the freeze/thaw cycle rather than any "mistake" in the build or skin install. Any trailer WILL leak eventually. With a sharp eye and proper maintenance, damage can be kept to a minimum. I try to tarp any that are outside over the winter, even the old derelicts. No reason to ask for more rot...

Hi all. Just thought I'd throw 2 cents worth in. I purchased a cover from eBay last year to cover the 16SC with. They are decidedly cheaper than the ones sold by dealers but still held up well. There are no zipper entries in it, which leads me to qualify it as "cheaper". But my comment was really going to be about the wings. I tore a hole in the cover on one of the wing tips the very first attempt to put it on. (As a pure stroke of luck, the hole ended up at the top corner of the door. It gave just enough room to get in.) I ended up removing the wings for storage. It just makes covering easier and is one less thing to worry about being damaged...or stolen.

We put old tennis shoes on the wing tips. We had removed the wings for storing, but then put them back on for a short trip. We decided that it probably wasn't a good idea to keep taking them off and putting them on again, so we left them on and covered the tips with old tennis shoes. Hmm, it that where the term "wing tips" came from? We also padded one of our awning poles and put it on the ground between the wing outcropping to keep the water from pooling. So far, so good.
And thanks, vikx, for the reminder that just the freeze thaw cycle can cause leaks. I guess I never really thought about that. At any rate, there is staining to the back upper corners. We will pull the skins and repair any rot, but I don't want to replace the panels as they all have a gorgeous (and for us, appropriate) heart pattern in the grain. There's no way we could replace that., so we will document the repairs with pics and just live with the staining. It's pretty dark in those back corners anyway.

I wonder if you could sand those areas down a little and put another couple coats of shellac on them? I mean if they aren't big and old why wouldn't that work?
Just a newbie idea, no big if I'm wrong, I am quite often wrong. 😁
