If more people would actually READ what is posted here, watch your videos and read my book, there would be a lot fewer gutted trailers with gooped roofs and patched interiors...

If more people would actually READ what is posted here, watch your videos and read my book, there would be a lot fewer gutted trailers with gooped roofs and patched interiors... In fairness to many people out there, they start work on their camper without knowing these resources exist. They try to make logical decisions without experienced people to ask. For instance, working from the inside and leaving the outside skin undisturbed makes perfect sense until you actually see how the layers of the camper overlap each other. By the time most people realize it, it's too late. And who would think that flimsy wardrobe cabinet going floor to ceiling holds the camper together? Etc, etc. All I can say to new people here, learn by the mistakes people before you have made. It's a lot easier than making the mistakes yourself. |

I actually had a flipper argue with me that not every trailer needs to have the skins lifted. She can tell if a trailer needs it just by looking at it. And she just plain doesn't buy trailers that need that level of repair. Yet she's buying 50 - 60 year old trailers. She just must have quite an eye for that stuff to be able to see right through the skins. She also said she can rehab a trailer and sell it for $3,000 because she sees no need to gouge people. And she leaves restoring the windows for the proud new owner to do.

But in today's world, everyone knows that you can find out anything you wish to know by reading books or looking on You Tube. You can even find out how to do your own dentistry. The biggest mistake I see people making is comparing a trailer restore to a house remodel. Nothing could be further from the truth. |

Hey guys, love the discussion. It Certainly is not known off the bat how to do things correctly but there are so many resources today to find out how to do things right. Ironically there are also blogs online that will tell you all the wrong ways to do things. One I saw even shows photos of a guy siliconing the crud out an old trailer around the windows, genuinely thinking he is doing the right thing.

I constantly get emails asking me how to do it "the easy way".... I even get flamed on my video comments and have to delete the comments all the time because I don't enjoy arguing with complete idiots.

Mobiltec, you are such a kind person to take longer with your restores than usual for the sake of recording what you do for others to learn. It seems like people on YouTube lose their filters with comments. They would never say that to your face. The internet doesn't have to be that way. Its not like that here. Perfect example. Anyway, maybe better for you to welcome emailing you with questions? I bet it would lose most nasty people that are keyboard trigger happy. HAHA. Really though, can you blame people for wanting to cut corners. Nobody wants to work these days. And it's a shame because it can be so fulfilling.

I look at them and say to myself, you are one of those people I have to deal with on the internet. There are so many of them. And it seems they all went to the same school of laziness and stupidity. I do get more good than bad though. My favorite line that most emails start with is something like, "I just don't know how to thank you for your videos"... Duh... um... see that donate button you had to scroll by to get to my email addy? LOL... |
