Last Sunday I was sick, so today is (hopefully) the day. I am pulling the skins off garage walls where they've lived for the past year or so, to make sure my walls are the correct "shape". I had to completely rebuilt the front since all the lower front radius was rotted away. I did the best I could using a cardboard template and existing pieces, but I want to do a comparison to the skins before I get them affixed to the trailer.

One thing that will help is a belt sander with pretty ugly grit (36 if you can get it) If the shape is too big, you can trim with the multitool, then sand (carve) to be exact. If the framing is too small, you can always add thin layers of ply, glued and tacked. This is the part I really enjoy!

We got the skins clamped to one wall to dry fit and it was actually pretty darn good. I went bigger in every instance where I was unsure, as I figured it would be easier to trim down than to add. That wall will go up in the AM. The 2nd wall is the door side and was the worse of the 2 to begin with, and the first one I did, so I'm not as hopeful with that one, haha. SaveSaveSaveSave

I'm long overdue on posting updates. Since this post in January, I haven't accomplished a lot, but I've been steadily busy. I got the other wall up, front dinette benches built, and I nearly have the wardrobe closet completely rebuilt. Once that's finished and in its space, I'll post photos.

he summer of 2017 will forever be known as the summer of cabinetry. I am not a cabinet builder, but I'm getting there. So far, I've constructed the boxes (in the cabinet-maker's world, they call them the carcass) for the wardrobe cabinet, over the stove cabinet, and the sink/stove base cabinet, using new birch for the face frame, and new 1/4" birch ply for the sides. I have stripped the paint from all doors and drawers fronts and are reusing them. I have put a fresh coat of bright, white washable paint inside the drawers. The last bit of cabinetry I have to complete is the other upper cabinet for the kitchenette, I have to completely construct the gaucho bed as it was turned into a full-time bed and I have to recreate the front and rear wall-to-wall decorative shelves. I have the originals to use as templates, but alas, like every other surface, they were painted too much to be able to salvage and reuse. Here is a current photo. Tonight I hope to get the hole cut for the sink and start getting the counter laminated.

I don't think there's THAT much more space, I think it's because I haven't gotten everything put back in it yet. It's filling up quickly. By the time the dinettes, table and gaucho are in, there won't be much room.

Wow! What an undertaking! We are rebuilding our '60 Shasta Deluxe, but haven't nearly come close to tearing it as far apart as you are. It's lovely, truly. Looking forward to your next update.

Looking very nice Theresa. Don't forget gimp on the bottom of all your cabinets that set on the floor.

Looking very nice Theresa. Don't forget gimp on the bottom of all your cabinets that set on the floor. They're all just sitting there for now Larry. I've got more gimp on order to finish them up. Wasn't quite aware of just how much I'd need for all cabinets!
