That is interesting, kamhawk. Are you in Kansas? I've been told that if it is under 2,000 lbs to just put the towing vehicle's tag on the camper. But I talked to Kansas Highway Patrol and they told me I definitely need get a Quiet Title to make it legal.

Yes, Southeast part.....I'm not sure anyone knows the law. I have proceeded with my rebuild and will go with the Home built title as a last resort. Mine is total frame off rebuild.

I'm starting to think the same thing. I don't know if I'll find another camper like this one and for the price.. If I get pulled over then I'll say what I just said. I don't even know. I talked to at least 10 people today at the Clerk's office, tag office, DMV, and highway patrol. All of them seemed like they didn't even know what a camper was. I think if I may just go with it and whatever happens, happens.

shea228, I don't know you but like I said before, I feel a comnection with you! We for a 67, but I do want to point out that we paid $1500 for ours. Now I don't say we bought a $1500 piece of junk. It had the floor replaced, some framing, new rims and tires, as well as new wiring and hitch. Also, a big one.. A Title! Its hard to say whether I would rather pay 200 for yours. But at least you have a small starting point financially. Personal msg me if you have any questions! I may be able to help you. I don't know a ton like many on here do but I am at least faniliar with your Compact. We had to do quite a bit of things to ours as well. Oh, and sorry ti hear about the registering woes with DMV. I don't get it though. A quiet title is meant to settle a dispute as to who owns the piece of property right? If there is no dispute I wouldn't see why that is necessary. All I would think is to wait to prove it isn't stolen, like nccamper said.

Bad??? That's not bad, that's normal in our world. I would be shocked if it looked differently.
Move slowly. Measure the old framing carefull...twice. Mark on the side skin exactly where the old window framing goes because you need the new framing to line up exactly the same way if you are reusing the skin.
Watch the Shasta series at cannedhamtrailers.com or get vikx's book, or both, before moving on from here. Really. I mean it.

I need to watch some more videos or do more research before I go any further. I wasn't expecting all of that wood to be completely rotted. I mean, all of it. I don't even know where to begin to measure because all of the corners are gone.

The outside looks good to me, just go slow, save everything and replace pieces one at a time.

My question is how do I replace the frame in the front/rear without having the sides solid first?

My plan is to use 1x4s and maybe smaller for the rear framing. I will measure each piece(s) and measure and measure again. Once I'm comfortable with the plan then I will move to the front and repeat the process. Then it's on to the sides. Then flooring, electric, and interior walls. Sound about right? I have her tarped for the night.

"...If it's too bad, often the skins are your guide." The side skin. If the inside birch is gone, subtract the edge board and 1/8" for the birch and you know where the side framing goes. This is the best way to do it if the birch is still in place. Much easier. Watch this and the videos around it. www.youtube.com/watch?v=9I1FywwAczcThe above is video 7A cannedhamtrailers.com/57shasta.htm

My question is how do I replace the frame in the front/rear without having the sides solid first? You need to remove the side skins and repair the lower skirt boards and wheel wells. That much rot, you'll find a lot more. The front and rear are repaired AFTER the sides and edge boards are repaired. (good onya for seeing that)

Some news today. I messaged Ross the VIN and he says it was actually constructed in 1967!

From what I can see I'll have to replace the entire floor and supports.
