Hi Everyone,
I've been researching our new member stats; date joined, how many visits, posts, etc.
Some have joined and never returned. (at least not logged in again) I'm curious what you all think about this. My thought is to delete the membership after 3 months of no activity. Our goal here is to archive quality information and enjoy friendly discussion, not gather a multitude of non-participating members to up our count.
Thanks. Comments very welcome. Vikx

Maybe when they signed up back when it was new they haven't returned because they think it was kinda empty.
Do you have the capability to send email blasts to members?
Perhaps remind them that the boards are active and growing, and to come check it out and participate. Maybe as an incentive, give VTT stickers to those who reach a certain amount of posts of quality content. Just a suggestion?

I don't know if three months is really that long. People have babies, sick parents, and other life events that could keep them away for awhile. But of course there may be people that join just to sell and then go away. I think it would be too difficult for a moderator to keep track of the number of "quality" posts. Does it hurt anything to have members that aren't active? If not, why not use a year as a cutoff. If a year has gone by an email could be sent warning them that their life will soon be meaningless because they will be dropped from the forum. Just another thought.

Good ideas, Thank you!
The email can be done and would generate interest. No stickers to offer yet. LOL.
No, doesn't hurt a thing to have non-active members. A year is good.
There have been a few with odd names: all numbers or senseless wording. Just trying to stay on top of spammers. Of course, you all will let us know if that happens.

I just don't have much to offer while waiting for shed to be finished. :-( I do peek in fans comment occasionally. Enjoy the break from me while it lasts. ;D

Of course, delete spammers, we are all appreciative of this and all the hard work you do. I wonder though what is the drawback to having stale members on file? I can't imagine that it would take much in the way of memory? Just thinking that someone stores their trailer for a couple years or sells and buys another a couple years later then they have to register all over again... Whatever you decide I trust your judgement!

Not being able to get started on my project yet, I am having a blast at looking at the submits and others peoples projects. But just for the sake of numbers, not, but maybe a longer grace period. Also notification upon signing into the forum.

I donno, I am a member of a couple of other forums that I rarely visit unless I have an issue I think I might find the answer to, sometimes I dont post just search read and learn (I don't want to show my ignorance) I am sure at least a few just Lurk and read. I am on here daily but dont post a lot lately, waiting for warmer weather to more work.
but I would be leery of screen names that don't make sense.
I would say 6 months without a revisit is to long, by then they have forgotten their screen name and password anyways.

I leave this stuff up to the admin to decide. But I agree with UE. Many people I have seen on other forums might post once in a year or two when they have a question. Other than that they lurk. Nothing wrong with lurkers really as long as they are not spying on me trying to get information to come rob me or something. And that is something you will never be able to protect yourself from in todays world. The only way to be safe on the internet is to not be on the internet.

I've only removed maybe 6-8 members since we began. Some were requested, a couple of spammers and I believe the others were dual memberships.
It's the weird names (all numbers or unintelligible letters) that make me wonder. No worries, I'll keep everybody for now. Thanks for our opinions!

There is some guy that comes around every couple of months..... I think he's legit. Name is or was something like safetybruce. There is another vintage trailer group with a pretty strict activity policy that I have joined more than once because I don't post often enough. Glad to hear we haven't had to go that far with it. Thanks again Vikx for all you do!

SafetyBruce is definitely legit. He used to do all sorts of brand research for us on the old board. He's in the US now and not as able to spend computer time...

Yes, thanks for the update on SafetyBruce. I really miss him. He was very active when I was looking for a trailer and was so helpful. And he introduced me to a trailer mentor (you know who you are). :-)
