I've got a thread going in the Vintage Restorations section... but need help identifying the year of my trailer. Here is a pic of the VIN tag inside the front rail: Here's a pic of the VIN on the curbside tongue rail: And the little green plate showing manufacture: I'd love to know as much as possible... Thanks. Follow my build HERE

I remember your original post. Great looking Shasta and you are doing an awesome rebuild. Here is what I posted: Based on the partial vin#, this is what I have come up with. Your Shasta 1500's partially complete vin# would be FS27997-PA? , which it was given in early 1965. At the time, Shasta 18' Super's, 1400's, 1500's, Compact's, an Astroflyte and a few Shasta Twenty's were being created. If I had to guess, I would say that these were being special ordered. Most of the time, each Shasta plant would do runs of certain models and then move on to the next model and so on. This is the beauty of the Shasta Database, is that production patterns are visible. Each Shasta manufacturing plant used consecutive numbers and letters. Each prefix letter or in California's case, two prefix letters, show what City and State they were produced. Once a list of vin#'s has been established, I can usually figure the rest out, but some exceptions are there. As in your Shasta's case, which are the last 4 digits. The California plants would sometimes stamp the vin# into an information plate, which was attached to the curbside lower front corner. However, the 2 sets of letters would not be present. Hope this helps. Ross Read more: vintagetrailertalk.freeforums.net/thread/6473/new-me-shasta-restoration-project#ixzz47sByBVzi

Thanks for the replies. I found the second number stamped on the curbside tongue rail and didn't know if that "S" made a difference. As I mentioned in my earlier post the PO had the trailer re-registered as he didn't have a title. The current title now says 1978 as yer of manufacture... Has anyone from ARIZONA ever had to try and re-register anything like this? I'd really like the title to someday have the right date on it.

New to this site, not sure if I am in the right place but here goes. Ross I recently acquired a Shasta Astrodome and am trying to find out the year it was made or close to it. The vin is ES19995 with a PA 1971 stamped behind it, I have investigated enough to know that it was made in Northridge and the PA 1971 is a total mystery, but I have seen it on other Astrodomes.

Welcome to the vintage trailer madness!
Your Shasta Astrodome was born in 1963 in Northridge, California (as you mentioned), probably mid year. As for the PA1971.....this is interesting.....I do see ALL of the Astrodome's from the Northridge plant have the same PA1971, as the end of the vin#. However, so do a few of the Airflyte's and 16SC's. I wish I could have a good answer for you, but I don't......sorry. As I collect more Shasta vin#'s, maybe a stronger pattern will start to show itself.
Hope this helps, Ross

Hello, I have a 16 airflyte but not sure on the year. The VIN reads V-9644. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Oh and the back of the mirror says 1962.

bill62Your Shasta Airflyte chassis was actually built and given it's vin# in 1961, probably in the beginning of the last quarter of 1961, in Goshen, Indiana. Then completed and sold in 1962. Hope this helps. Ross
